The off-season...

Time to be linked with all the players
Time to get none of those player
Time for Sissoko to somehow last another season

I was just looking through the squad as we near the end of the season and I wondered what people thought we (realistically) needed for next season. I say realistically because we all know we aren’t going to sign any worldies for the sake of it and Poch stubbornly/loyally hangs on to players who aren’t up to snuff.

All signs seem to point to the following players leaving:

Toby
Rose
Dembele
Janssen
Nkoudou
Onomah
CCV

Behind that there are some players who could leave/fans would like to see the back of (ordered by likeliness to leave):

Sissoko
Vorm
Llorente
Tripper

In terms of improvements I think the following should see a boost from either year 2 in the system or following on from big injuries:
Aurier
Llorente
Moura
Foyth
Lamela
Wanyama
Winks

Positions of need
Left FB
CB
CM

Positions in need of an upgrade
Backup FB
Backup striker
Backup GK (unless that’s Gazzaniga’s future role)

When you boil it down there isn’t an awful lot (outside of defense) that we need so it’s nice to be able to go into the offseason in a position to just get quality players or allow a fresh batch of youngsters to come through.

Diawara will be quality, but again - he's only 20 years old with well under 100 starts under his belt. Is he really fit to replace Dembele at this stage? I'm not sure he's any better than De Ligt. They're both young, highly promising, similar number of club games (albeit De Ligt has several international appearances as well)... neither can really be relied on at their young ages to step straight in and improve Spurs' first XI on a weekly basis.

Spurs badly need proper first-teamers.

We don’t buy proper first team players unless they are surplus to requirements.

When I say "I'm not sure he's any better than De Ligt" I mean I'm not sure he's any more ready for Premiership football than De Ligt. Obviously I know they play in different positions.

Point is, Spurs need ready-made players, not yet more youngsters who need time to bed in and improve before they're ready to play every week. Now more than ever, given the first-teamers who are probably leaving this summer.

Indeed. That's why I'm personally quite concerned about the summer ahead. Spurs are losing a lot of first-team quality, and I can see them lining up next season with a squad that's both extremely young and, frankly, worse than the current one.

Tbh I think younger players are more suited to Poch than the ready to go experienced ones.

Going to be a interesting summer

Have to get at least one CM who wants to get on the ball and dictate the tempo. Will free up Eriksen to create further forward.

If Dembele goes I certainly don’t want a ‘replacement’ for him. I want a shift away from what we’ve got in midfield - plenty of power but lack of creativity.

I want experience to replace Alderweireld and Rose should he leave. Any highly-rated kids we buy should be in addition to what we have, unless of course they are ready now to make a real impact like Alli did. We can’t keep on looking to develop everyone and keep waiting for them to reach their potential, we need a mix otherwise we’ll always be sat here wondering why we come up short.
