Having not beaten any real quality in this World Cup, I'd like to know if anyone believes this same England team would have fared any better in the group stages in the 2014 World Cup, that Hodgson's England failed to advance from?
Would we have beaten a Uruguay with a Suarez and Cavani who caused us problems in that game, or an Italy with midfield maestro Pirlo? I'm not actually convinced we would, but we might have not lost against them I guess.
What do you think?
This England team in the 2014 World Cup

It's just that even though the made the semis the reality of the situation is England just are not that great a side!
The only thing going for the team is Harry Kane and you see when misfires England have nothing at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Who says they are a great side? Nobody expected much and we were pleasantly surprised. Shoot us!
Kane misfired for the entire KO games but we still got to the semis by the way
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You personally may not have expected much but to say your nation, most of your fans, media, the idiot who already got winners tattoo done before Croatia match expected a lot more. You supporters singing ‘Are you Scotland in disguise?’ Despite England just scraping a 2-2 draw against us in our last match?
Don't downplay it you were flying waistcoats from castles.
You were pasj

Crank me a river
Stop being so bitter, we enjoyed the ride. We are out now so you can breathe again.

Plenty of teams at this world cup would have beaten England and I include Spain and Germany on that list.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ah you know that for a certainty then. Purely hypothetical. Germany finished bottom of a four team group that included such giants of the game as South Korea, Sweden and Mexico. Spain won just one game out of a group that included Morocco and Iran.

And England beat Tunisia and Panama, two footballing giants........oh and Sweden a very average European side, one incidentally a hopeless Germany even managed to beat.
The draw put you where you are, nothing more, you didn't attain fourth based on being better than 28 other nations.

To me we've shown that we haven't changed much. More defensively resolute maybe but lacking in quality the further up the pitch you go. We have some sort of curse upon us that prevents us beating any big teams. Even Wales beat Belgium ffs!!

Well we did though so suck it up. You get where you get, end of. Italy and Netherlands rubbish, did not even qualify, Germany were rubbish, dumped out in the group, Spain, Argentina not much better dumped out in the first knockout stages, and England 4th best team in the world after competing in the 3rd/4th team match.
