Calm Reflection

All Celtic supporters are hurting today and are filled with disappointment at yesterdays performance.

We all have different opinions as to what went wrong, who was to blame and all have views on everything from team selection to the Boards "buying" policy.

However we have what we have and we're stuck with it until January with the hope that our injured players recover soon and others recover or rediscover some form.
We may think that Neil Lennon is blind to the faults of some players and frequently picks the wrong team or doesn't know when to make substitutions but the fact is, he's the manager who is well paid to make those decisions and he will keep his job or lose it based upon those decisions.
Celtic is our club and while we're entitled to be angry and upset we still need to get behind those in the hoops with our full support.
It's only September, we've lost one OF game, Rangers lost most of the league games last season yet still won the SPL so it's not over yet.

We can moan all we like but there's no need to run to the cliff edge just yet.

What the team needs is a leader but that has to be someone who's guaranteed a regular place in the team and who can inspire the others , any suggestions?

sammy, loovens or erm broony

I think that Mjallby should be training the young defenders better, in my opinion. Rogne and Toshney could be good young defenders for the club, if they are taught well.

There has to be a fault in the coaching somewhere, because I was watching Soccer Saturday a few weeks back and they said Caldwell was rock solid with Wigan, yet at Celtic I had to watch him from behind the couch.
I also watched Darren O Dea for the national team and he played really well, there is a fault in the coaching somewhere. People like Loovens and Majstorovic will always be bad players, but with the likes of Wilson and Rogne I think they could be developed into better players.

Again I agree Henrik.
I thought that Mjalby would be good in organising our defence but so far it hasn't worked out.
Rogne is always injured and seems a bit slow.

If he can't do it we need to find someone who can. I would have thought that Lenny would have followed O'Neill and gone for Balde types but so far he hasn't or hasn't been allowed to.

Henrik i think part of the problem is that some players simply cant handle playing for the OF or the brutal style of SPL football there have been many OF flops who have gone on to do very well the most recent is Charlie Adams!!

Ritchie, whilst I agree with the point it is not as if the likes of Loovens and Majstorovic do not dish out their fair share of brutal tackles.

Defensively all I want is: two centre backs who can form a partnership together; can mark man for man; pass the ball to a decent standard and have an average level of pace. Surely these are the most basic levels of performance required to even call yourself a defender?

I believe football is quite easy, and it is just made hard by coaches who desire plaudits for having some sort of tactical nous.

I do not want to start a petty debate here, but if Rangers got an alleged bid of £1.5million accepted for Carlos Cuellar, why did we not bid £1.6million. He is a good defender and has already proven it in the SPL. I do not suggest this just to annoy Rangers, he is a player within our budget.

Fellows calm down, the centre half is not necessary the main problem.
Last season we had a very good/holding mid field. When Brown Kayal and Ledley played together they were very quick to get back. I don't see the same eagerness in Kayal for example in getting back. Mc Manus and Caldwell had a very ineffective mid field in front of them.
O'Dea I think should be a Celtic Player.
The two goals from the corner kicks, I think were not the centre defenders fault.
I would hate to see us playing against Rangers without 4 or 5 tall players.
One of our biggest problems yesterday was Lafferty, the big long animal, playing against our wee left back.

I was very surprised by the team selection yesterday and I think Lenny needs to take a lesson from it. Loovens should not be on the park against ICT nevermind Rangers. Wilson and Mulgrew need to be our first choice CB partnership and given time to develop an understanding. The LB (not trying to spell his name) looked well out of his depth yesterday despite the goal, but better players than him have struggled in their first OF game and he's just keeping Izzy's spot warm till he gets back. I cannot understand for the life of me how Ledley didn't take any part (unless injured) and why our best striking partnership (Stokes and Hopper) were not played from the start. Lenny is overthinking things, get your best players on the park and let the chips fall where they may.

Well played Rangers, and it was refreshing to see a more positive playing style from them, though I hated the result. They looked right up for it, and we sadly did not.

If you are an example of a modern Celtic fan I think it is not one bit wonder Celtic are going through a sticky part.
Celtic fans should be sick with disappointment that them lot beat us.
No true Celtic fan could right the phrase well played Rangers.
You are either a disgrace or an infidel.
