Sol Campbell

has been earmarked to work with the U21s.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45730544

As part of "a Football Association plan to create Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) coaching placements "across all England teams"

Now Im all for equality but Sol Campbell !!! Is he qualified to be in a position of coaching the U21s? I presume he's done his badges. He seems to have a very suspect personality, somewhat delusional and just odd. Is this what you want coaching our youngsters. Has this been considered in his appointment, interviewed/assessed in the same way as anyother candidate would be? Surelyhe should be there on merit, not as a token!

If someone is getting a job because they are black, someone else isnt getting that job because they are not black. Discrimination whichever way you look at it.

There is definitely still discrimination in the game, whether this goes up to high levels in the FA or club Boards is difficult to assess. Chairmen have no issues appointing 'foreigners' or buying black players. There are examples of black managers who have tried and failed but the likes of Ince and Barnes failed because they were no good, just like the likes of Adams and Gazza also tried their hand but failed.

The reason this strikes me is because of the personality of Sol Campbell who has made some very strange statements and choices since retiring from football, but has banged the racism drum a lot a and is now getting a job at the FA. There are a lot of back coaches in the system. Surely there are more worthy candidates. This smacks of high profile tokenism.

Yeah but why, what black player do you know that has been turned down a role due to his colour? Vieira went straight in as a coach at city, and would have done at arsenal. Drogba was offered a coaching role. Eddie newton who was no more than an average player for chelsea too.

It's just a grey area, i'm all for equal opportunity, just playing devils advocate really. Should we have the same where atleast one woman is interviewed? As we have men who manage in their game, surely we should have women who manage ours?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some managers from BAME (soz galv) backgrounds have complained about not getting roles for not being 'qualified' whereas other managers (Giggs, Gerrard, Sherwood, Shearer etc) got these jobs without having their coaching badges - if you get the point.

The statistical anomaly between BAME footballers and BAME managers/coaches suggests there is a trend in football that is more than a coincidence. There may be a few explanations for this, but I think people are right to ask the question with regards to potential discrimination. Which is why things like the Rooney Rule are brilliant as it provides the avenue to go about bringing change.

Good points edin. The names you've listed (giggs, shearer) etc is a bit of a exception however, as they are all legends at their respected clubs or complete legends in the game. So like I say it is a bit of a grey area. Like I say the key part is that whoever gets interviewed is worthy of that interview, then i'm not sure how people could have an issue with it.

Mind you maybe we should start a similar thing with british managers considering the amount that are players compared to managers in the top flight.

Nah. Can't be bothered either

But he did say why he doesn't think he should be in the position and he did say why he cared but hey

But as IF I want to be speaking about that caant on Barcelona day.

Might head off now actually.

Either way the last two sentences we can firmly agree on, I'm hoping to be heading on over soon too!

Sol should learn his trade at a club before doing the under 21's, it would be a nice story to go back to where it all started and coach the Spurs youth, who better to show them that if they work hard they can eventually progress to a big club and win trophies.

I do want to clarify, that, like everyone else here. I don't want S*l to have any happiness in his life, ever.

Our Sol going into management. Looking forward to this. I'm thinking Brendan Rodgers' cringe factor multiplied by 10.

Sol has mental issues and shouldn’t guide the youth of tomorrow

Just saying that I did object to Lampatd getting given the Derby job given he'd never really had any coaching experience before. I think all coaches should work their way up from the lower leagues to use that as their experience.
