Is it just me, but did last night's cup match between Chelsea and United look very much like us against Palace, once United had a two goal lead?
Sarri plays 4-3-3 with Jorghino spraying passes forward. McCann plays a similar formation with Ben W pretty much in the Jorghino role. Apparently Palace's plan on Sunday was to isolate Ben, just as United went out to isolate Jorghino last night. Once achieved it left Chelsea, like us, trying to pass around or through a packed defence. It didn't work in either game, which is a sort of regretful tribute to the respective defences.
The obvious lesson is not to go two goals down but, if you do, you have to take chances when faced with two banks of four. Playing triangles while waiting for a gap, or the opposition to make a mistake doesn't cut it. Risks have to be taken with the ball played over the top and every player shooting on sight when anywhere near goal.
This season has been a treat for fans of attacking football. Could it get even better?

It is hard enough to break down a ten man defence made up of L1 players so it was always going to be harder to do against a PL team with their better quality players.
Palace fans on the vsc had already told us that they like to play that way when they are away from home and hit teams on the break and that is how it panned out.
To be fair, in the second half we did begin to shoot from distance, I can remember five or six shots from outside the box that were either saved by the keeper or deflected wide by defenders.

From the Left Coast all I can say is "Why do we not get any highlights except the two goals on iFollow?" On earlier rounds we got more, but lower quality than normal - such as the 7-0 win.
! am grateful for all your comments so I can be as proud as you are.
