I think it’s the manager that needs to up his game when teams decide to man mark Jorginho. Needs to be a plan B. Get the likes of Barkley/Kovacic coming deep to collect the ball.

I wouldn't be surprised if hes tried this, I think something is wrong with this team set up. Mentally and more theres issues.

I know it must feel like I'm just blaming him but hes unproven. At least Alonso and Luiz have had more than good enough seasons in other playing positions.. so theres only 1 person to blame there and that's Sarri.

Would Jorginho be better playing in a different system/formation?

Please do it Sarri, I'll eat my words if he changes this and I wont care because we'll be doing better as a team again.

But keep playing this system and Sarri will be gone, then it'll be really interesting to see how Jorginho plays under another managers system

What amazes me is that next Pirlo Jorginho is so easily shut down by average players... makes you wonder why managers never tried this trick with other midfield playmakers like Xavi, Inesta or Pirlo himself. I mean if it's so simple to counter them why is poor Jorginho the only one targeted. It couldn't be that he's a poor player which is why he's so easily shut down by average teams like Everton and Wolves... It must be just that managers unfairly only target Jorginho and never think to do the same to other great midfielders in other teams.

You constantly look at things too literally and completely miss the point.

As a team Barcelona (during Xavi & Iniesta prime) were impossible to man mark because they had quality in every position. The act of man marking sacrifices spaces in an attempt to shut down specific threats, how do you man mark Basquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Pedro & Villa without completely losing your team shape? If teams sat on Xavi, Iniesta or both they'd be conceding the space to Messi and that's game over before kick off.

Any player, doesn't matter how good they are, won't be able to play their best football with a man marker attached to them, we've seen this umpteen dozen times with Hazard down the years. Teams target Jorginho because they know our football atm funnels through him and, as of yet, no-one else is stepping up to take advantage of the gaps that's creating - and opposition are rightfully thinking well if the formula ain't broke?

With that argument you've effectively just admitted your actual beef is with Sarri and/or the WB's + player who occupies the LCM role.

The sad thing is, it probably is!

Devils, it’s a fair point but it also raises the issue of building the side around a midfielder that has clear limitations when pressed. Carrick was often critised for going backwards when pressed but he always had the long out ball in his armoury to alleviate the pressure, Jorginho’s passing range by contrast looks very limited.

Kovacic and Kante have the ability to help Jorginho in transition yet there seems to be a bit of a disconnect between the midfield when Joginho is put under pressure. This is a tactical issue but I don’t think it’s unfair to point out the limitations of the player.

What an odd article.

Jorgino has been 5/10 this season. Not great. Not bad.
Still adapting. Our lack of runners and slower players on the ball are killing him a bit too. Luiz and alonso in particular hold the ball for way too many touches. By the time it gets to jorgino he’s already marked.

I was thinking more direct assists and the one in the carlo premier league season where he plays a ball in behind the liverpool defence and Drogba runs on to it and scores.

Jorginho still has 0 assists in a full season for us.

He is the Stewart downing of playmakers
