Forest v Swans Match Thread

It doesn't seem so long ago that Forest were promotion challengers rubbing shoulders with both Swansea & Blackpool and were found wanting on both occasions.

While the Tangerines have crashed and burned, both Swansea & ourselves are pretending that sixth spot is still within reach. So to continue with this warm fuzzy dream, tomorrow is a 'must win game' then?

The Swans last won a game on 2nd March beating Bolton with two late on goals [ McBurnie (80' minutes), Celina (90'+2 minutes)]; Bolton found themselves down to 9 by the end of the game, suffering a sending off in each half.

Since then the Swans have suffered three losses against Norwich & West Brom, plus a creditable defeat against Man City.
Their first choice keeper looks to be sidelined with a broken finger, although lead scorer McBurnie is fit.

Forest will have a near post Christmas full strength squad if both Cash and Grabban are fit.

Only a convincing win will do tomorrow.

Agree about Yacob, Dave. But don't think he should be starting just yet. Grabban and Cash tired today on their comebacks after long layoffs. Would be better to give him twenty minutes off the bench. I would start Pele and perhaps Carvalho next week. Watson's game has dipped to where it was under AK. Yates also looks like he needs a rest.

Good comeback today lads.

Maybe I better save my till when the fat lady actually sings.

What a league this is

This is what Murphy should be doing. Coming of the bench for the last 20 minutes. I thought that's what we got him in to do. Not every manager trying to play him week in, week out.

We sounded awful. I didn't spend $9 this week. Woke up at half time and figured i'd follow a few threads,

Rotherham is an excellent opportunity to get back to back wins. Hopefully Cash and Grabban will be sharper and of course, Byram getting closer.

I wish we could loan in AK for the away games and keep Monkea for the home games. Three managers...why not?

Anyway, happy with the win, but we're going to need an upturn in every department to get in the play-offs.

Staistically he's the best manager since Davies and his PPG average is on a par with SOD. Beat Rotherham and it's just about the same as BD. It sure doesn't feel like it though!!

I will sum how bad we were for 80 mins, Murphy didn’t come on till late, and was still (somehow) awarded man of the match, speaks volumes for the rest.

Ha I didn't realise that.

We used to smash teams at home though with BD and rarely ever lost.

Away from home was a different story ....

I don't think you can say Mon has done a bad job. He is still new to the team and we have a shot at the playoffs. Again I still do not understand why we got rid of karanka but I am happy with Mon as manager.

Also I do not see how any of us can moan about it as we have been wanting him as our manager for the last 25 years.

Super, we didn't sack Aitor, he walked because of stuff going on at the club that he didn't agree with.

I have yet to confirm the rumour with people I know here in his hometown, that the new Director of Football was interfering in selection and dressing room decisions, but that seems very plausible.

Having been at the Villa game and now yesterday, I would say the team seems to lack fitness. There was a lot of plodding going on out there. Forest were so slow to close Swansea down even when they got back in numbers and tried to defend the last 30 yards of the pitch. Worked well against Derby as they weren’t nearly as sharp in possession as Swansea were. It’s not an approach that’s going to win enough games, that is clear.

Most people underestimate the importance of fitness. All clubs now employ fitness coaches and have done for some years now. Also Sports Scientists and nutritionists. Players now wear the most sophisticated data gathering equipment to monitor their fitness levels.

Ideally clubs would not play players unless their fitness levels were at the required levels but they have to make a judgement whether a player at 90% is a better option than another player at 100%. So recently MON has been playing Murphy rather than Bonatini. This has knock-on effects: it will take a player longer to recover if he has played when his fitness level was not quite what was required. It also means that other players will have to work a little bit harder and then they too will need longer recovery times.

It is natural when we get to this stage of the season that teams will include players who are not at peak fitness and also carrying minor injuries. It is all part and parcel of a manager's long term selection strategy and decisions. Fans base their team selections on performance in the last game. The manager has much much more to think about so let's give him a break the next time he makes his decisions

. . . But it is fun to select the team for him. So here is my team to face Rotherham:

Pants

Benalouane Milo Wague

Cash Colback Pele Osborn

Grabban Murphy Lolley

There ya go Martin that's what you call going for it. Go 3-0 up then bring on Darikwa and Robinson for Cash and Murphy to close it out.
