Saving Private Ryan fans?

For any fans of the movie that didn’t get to see it the first time round at the cinema. Check out your local Cineworld. It’s definitely on at my local on the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. I have it on DVD and I’m still excited at the thought of seeing it at the Cinema.

Just hope I can behave when it comes to the Corporal Upham moment. As Brummie is well aware, I always get (a tad) shouty and sweary when he does that. Especially as I won’t be in the comfort of my own home

Saving Ryan's Privates? I thought the Alien p/rn film was better tbh.

Saving Private Ryan? Meh, Saving Ryan's Privates? 👍

More seriously, I though it was a bit meh. Mind you I find Tom Hanks a bit meh. Band of Brothers, now we are talking. 👍

This was my go to film for showing off 5.1 - the beach landing to this day is still amazing

As great as the Normandy beach scene is, it always bothers me when it goes to the German shooters' perspective and there's a lot less men on the beach than you see from all other shots. Other than that poor continuity, it's a brilliantly directed and constructed scene.

The beach scene is a great watch at the cinema but the film itself is a tad overrated imo. A bit schmaltzy!

I saw it at the cinema, I had read the book before hand and was pleasantly surprised how close the film ran it, which is rare as we all know.

I have been to Normandy a few times on motorbike tours
and have visited that cemetery and the beach. Standing on the beach looking at the bank you have to scale to get to the cemetery is daunting enough. It makes you wonder how anyone survived once you add in the wire, anti tank and personnel barriers, shells, bullets, smoke equipment carried etc.

Pont du hoc is the most amazing place though, check out the craters there it's like being on the moon.

Saw it at the Cinema when it first came out and have loved it ever since. I've never seen so many people rushing to the toilets in the first 10 minutes of the film. My Mrs. went as well and reported back that the female toilets were just full of vomit where people had been throwing up due to the graphic nature of those first 10 minutes or so.

On the subject of Eastern Front films the ones that stand out for me are in no particular order Stalingrad, Cross of Iron, Enemy at the Gates, Downfall and a Russian made one called the Battle for Moscow.
