Year of Youth?

With Jurgen klopp continuing to tell us all that he is not expecting to do significant business this window as his squad is how he'd like it, is this going to be Liverpool's year of youth break through?

Klopp has been misquoted, and we have been wummed many times, on his "different way" comments. This has been particularly so as he then shelled out world record fees for world class players. Of course those few key players transformed our outlook and delivered a champions league.

Is it now time for the "different way"?

What is this different way?

My view is this preseason we are seeing the early shoots of LFC youth recruitment policy which has been steadily gathering players for quite a while, such as:

Van Den Berg (17)
Curtis Jones (18)
Ki-Jana Hoever(17)
Yasser Larouci (17)
Rhian Brewster (19)
Bobby Duncan (18)

Theres only one home grown player there in terms of locality but there's a bit of talent thats been recruited over time to enable Klopp to have the option to take them along and develop them more this summer.

Ki looks an absolutely steal, I'm as sure as I can be he's going to be a big player for us, but Larouci is a prime example of what we are doing. Bought as a winger and converted to left full in the u18s last season. I had thought we'd buy a left full for sure as far back as January last but now I am wondering ..... early days, but its worth a thought.

My view is klopp has talked all preseason about young and returning players rather than big fees for big players, so I think we just might see Klopp's different way this season, but only if these very young players step up and grab the chance ala Trent.

We have some games in cups, we have some squad slots to fill and klopp has hinted strongly that some players are going to fill those.
Yes there are another generation of young men at the club (woodburn, wilson, phillips, kent, ejaria, ojo etc) may have to do some more loans or may need to move to develop their careers depending on how things go this preseason but the very young boys won't be loaned yet so may just get a league cup or fa cup run if the draws are for one kind to us.

So just think baout these few points:

a)Wouldn't it be wonderful to find out brewster is the next Timo Werner and we save ourselves 80mil or so?

b) Wouldn't it be great to see James milner give both Ki and Larouci the chance to stake a claim on a full back slot for us rather than just buy another player now in the short term?

c) This policy might not help us compete with Man City next season but in 12 and 24 months it could. We have the evidence from what klopp did at right back when Clyne was out. He gave TAA and gomez their chances, they were not perfect but they developed and now we have IMO the best RB in the league and a glorious young CB. That 100mil of talent now, but most importantly they delivered success for us after a long barren spell.... along with the world record fees

hence why we bought him i guess

Suso only didn't work out for us cos he didn't fit into Rodgers system. Not because he was a bad player.

Texiera was the one i was excited about. Remember his cameo against Fulham on 2013/14 season and we all thought the Xabi had been created. Done nothing since.

Bring Cout home and we’re sorted.

There are loads for a lot of clubs really. Nemeth, Pacheco, Suso, Coady, Ayala, Rossiter. The list goes on.

But mostly they've gone on to have good careers and I'm proud the club do that.

There is a website somewhere which lists how many youth products each team has produced and then gone onto have careers in the football league. Utd and Liverpool lead the way I think.

Op...I think Liverpool's youth is going to kick on massively this season, brewster and Curtis Imo will come in and they deserve too. Hover looks brilliant too..Let's not forget AOC and Gomez are also back, I cannot wait to see us start the season.

its be nice to think that we can solve issues, especially around full back, out of our own resources.

klopp has signalled his intent and challenged the kids to step through the open door. tjey have to do that not him

You just never know with young players. Watching Jordan Ibe in our youth teams I thought he was better than Sterling at that age and would kick on. He didn't. Sterling did. If two come through from the current crop that's a win in my book. Even one ala Trent is a win. Time will tell.
