Every now and again I like to think of a side of former Utd players to see if they would beat our current side. Having put together the below it is clear to see that the need for a DOF is vital to prevent the cycle of sacking managers and making shlt signings we're in.
---------------------------Heaton----------------------------
Rafael------------Keane----------Evans------------Blind
-----------------Herrera----------Schneiderlin------------
Di Maria-----------------Mhki--------------------Zaha
--------------------------Ronaldo-----------------------------
You could argue the Di Maria and Ronaldo sales were inevitable but the problem isn't selling them it is replacing the loss of quality in the squad.
We threw the baby out with the bathwater when LvG was sacked but should have kept one of his core principles.
Someone needs to make a decision that all teams at Utd play a certain formation and a certain style. That all signings and managerial appointments are made to be compatible with that approach.
For example, a 4-3-3 high pressing, possession based football club where players are encouraged to take on players and shoot.
It prevents successive managerial appointments like Moyes, LvG and Jose where the only thing they have in common is that they managed our club.
It prevents signings like Fellaini, Mata, Schwein Lukaku being made where they aren't capable of playing in the team we want to see perform.

I very much doubt you have seen half the players in it, so I will treat your comment by printing it out and wiping my ar$e on it.
Just in the extremely unlikely chance you are not RDD, I apologise in advance.

Short bloke, on his day a great Dane, but quite often a grating Dane. Had a brain haemorrhage.

Would he get the better of AWB ?

Quite possibly. We haven't seen AWB up against a tricky winger yet.

An XI of former players (who I remember) who weren't starters in our best XI but who I think would beat us now:
Van der Gouw
Phil Neville
Henning Berg
David May
Silvestre
Butt
Phelan
Blomqvist
Solskjaer
Sheringham
Sharpe

Good team Diafol, especially the forward line. I would have John O'Shea in place of Silvestre.

To be honest 52 I wanted to list some different players to what had been mentioned already. However, JOS would always come into consideration in any reserve 'best of' teams.
