Leeds Utd v Millwall Matchday Thread

Welcome to the Matchday Thread
A trip to the Lions Den for the Travelling Faithful and what MB classes as another tough game, Millwall managerless after Harris jacked it in the other day but I can still see them making life hard for us

Venue...The Den...Date 5th Oct ...Kick Off 1500hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Leeds United will be without skipper Liam Cooper, who has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a groin injury.
Marcelo Bielsa will also be without teenager Jamie Shackleton (hamstring), who is sidelined for four weeks.
Fellow midfielders Pablo Hernandez (muscle strain) and Adam Forshaw (hip) are still unavailable.
Gaetano Berardi is expected to step in for Cooper at centre-back, while Tyler Roberts or Stuart Dallas could replace Shackleton in midfield.

Millwall
Adam Barrett will take caretaker charge of Millwall after Neil Harris stepped down as manager on Thursday.
Midfielder Shane Ferguson could return after suspension, while defender Jason McCarthy (toe) and striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson are pushing for recalls.

Match facts
Millwall have lost just one of their past 10 home matches against Leeds in all competitions (W8 D1 L1), a 1-0 defeat in March 2012.
Leeds are looking to record back-to-back league victories over Millwall for the first time since March 2012.
Millwall have failed to score more than once in any of their past 17 Championship matches, netting just 11 goals.
Leeds have won just one of their past 16 away league matches in London (W1 D5 L10), a 3-1 victory at QPR in December 2017.
Millwall have registered the lowest average possession figure in the Championship this season, just 36.7%.
In their 1-0 win over West Brom, Leeds registered 48% possession - only the second time Leeds have had less than 50% in a Championship game under Marcelo Bielsa (also away at Sheffield United in December 2018).

Right, Millwall on a 7 game winless run will be looking to take something from us but i'm thinking we'll have enough quality to take the points, MB shuffling the squad a bit to cover the injuries but that shouldn't prove a problem , I'm going for a 0-2 scoreline with Bamford getting both and delivering a nice 3 points for my Birthday

Beaten by a cheat and a bad referee, cost us 3pts, we are the best team in the league, 2pts off top, 2 weeks to regroup and away we go, MOT

Amazed by how critical people can be of this performance.

To do that with 10 men for 75 minutes is very impressive. We were cheated by a dive and a blind ref.

Agree, lunacy to critique today’s performance... but my frustration is the previous games where we’ve not done our bit and not taken the chances that hurts. You always get a few games in the championship
Per season like today.... they don’t matter. In other games where u are guilty of being wasteful do.

For 10 men it was an awesome performance - strangely until the penalty, we weren't looking our usual impressive selves. Like a stuck record, though, it has to be repeated that we have not got a clue around the area. Tell me if I'm wrong, but almost all our goals are generated from balls on the ground (as Alioski's was today) yet we persist in wasting balls by crossing them. We have not got the players to exploit these balls which is why they rarely produce attempts on goal. Just pinging them in low would surely be more productive, if only out of the resulting chaos.

From the bit I saw second half we were attacking relentlessly for a good 30mins. They couldn’t get the ball off us and we asked them many questions.

Bottom line though is that we created only half chances and nothing at all clear cut. This has to change sooner rather than later.

Brum up next. Centenary game by all accounts. Got my ticket!

Bounce back Leeds!

Have to agree with that. Goal last time out was exactly that! Ping it in and hope for a break.

There is one small problem with playing the ball on the ground, it means that every player can get to it, we've seen lots off our shots being blocked by the keeper and defenders from low crosses in the box!..

The high ball is easier for the tall players from the opposition to stop, but the low ball is just as easy for them as us, Costa and Harrison have to get their game right, and Eddie has shown glimpses of what he can do, Bamford can do a job if the right ball is played in, its the getting it together that has to be sorted and by that I mean the whole team!..

This team are good enough its just the end product that's missing!..

Take the ball to the goal line and low hard cross to edge of goalkeepers area or penalty mark.

Man City are so effective at that!
