This is a general question but one that I thought about while watching City play Villa last week.
And that’s the number of fans who leave early - not those who leave 5-10 minutes before the end of the game to try and get ahead of traffic, but those who were leaving well before half time because the team they support are getting comprehensively beaten at that moment in time.
Thus made me wonder. Do those fans who do this, while no doubt having a love for the club they support, not really love the game of football that much?
Are you a fan who would leave a game so early if the team you were playing were winning 3-0 (only really seems to happen when a team goes 3-0 down, irrespective of how much of the game is left to play).
If so, why do you do this? Does your love of your team surpass the love of the sport itself - and the sport itself is after all the only reason why your team exists in the first place.
Are you able to appreciate another team playing so well and just hold your hands up, accept defeat, and just enjoy the football that is being served up for you?
Fans leaving early

I know.
I was just reiterating that there’s no evidence, so
I haven’t changed my mind that it makes little sense.
And yes, I read it. See here:
“First of all early leaver syndrome, when it does occasionally crop up in Germany, takes place only in the luxury, expensive seats, whereas at Anfield the departees took part in a more general trudge.”
Contradicts the point.

I don't believe Liverpool had much luxury seats at the time the article was written. That has since changed so it would be interesting to see if there has been a change there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’d be interesting to see if there’s an ounce of truth in the claim, full stop.
I could get on board with the idea that the corporate seats are more likely to see people swan off to the bar sooner than the normal folk may choose to go home, but that would be different of course.

I realise the thread has taken a different path, and that’s fair enough, but I wasn’t so much wondering why people would leave a game 5-10 minutes before the end (which happens irrespective of whether their team is winning, drawing, or losing).
I was more wondering about why people would leave much earlier in a game based solely on the reason that their team were getting comprehensively beaten at that moment in time.
The example I gave (for example) - Villa fans were seen leaving at 2-0 (after 25 minutes) and many more at 3-0 (after 28 minutes).

Ripley,
It must be the drinking water in Manchester! It's not just a Man City problem. The United fans were booing at half-time and most of them were gone when the score was 2-0.

This is what I love about City fans. The only reasoned, measured, intelligent comments on any board on ja606.
Top of the list is Melton.
I was Blue Stocking on the old BBC 606 and tried to continue on here after its demise but it got too vitriolic and pointless.
There might be only a few left, to keep the flag flying but It’ll be a privilege to be here again.

Every opposition supporter of a losing club in finals at Wembley vanish long before the trophy is presented. Modern fans are not very gracious.

When I was ST holder at Leeds a man next to me always left with 10 mins to go. Missed some amazing finishes.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A couple of guys that sat near me at OT for many years were two brothers, one would leave with 5 mins to go every game to get the car out and ready.
Think of the goals he missed - I'd rather have been there for it and sat in traffic for another hour.
