Have you done this GTW14T?

(I'll forgive you if you can't remember. It's probably been a good few years that Liverpool have been 3-0 down at home)

Away fans don't do this, at least not noticeably, for obvious reasons.

I know a few lads from the Liverpool club I used to be a member of who went to Istanbul in 2005 and left at half time when Liverpool were 3-0 down.

The watched the rest in a pub. They refuse to talk about it.

I think most of the time they're trying to send a message to the owner/manager/players or all three that they're not happy with what they're witnessing.

Perhaps TOOR, but in that case who do the board listen to? The few thousand that leave, or the many more who stay?

For me, it's simpler than that. They like football but not enough to watch their team get beat. Hence why I ask if their love for their team surpasses their love for the game itself.

In a CL final that's crazy.

I've declined Newcastle tickets and sat and watched the game in shearers bar(in the stadium) or the strawberry 100 yards from the stadium. It needs to stir a passion.

As soon as clubs become brands, many people follow them like they do musicians. It's why clubs do documentaries on amazon or tours of Asia . But those fans are transient, and thats ok. My mate took his son to his first City game a few weeks ago, he was 15 during the 94 season, so he knows what it was like to follow the club and i doubt would ever leave early then and now. But he bleeds sky blue.

Only time I’ve ever done it was the cup game at white hart lane when we were 3-0 down at half time & joey Barton got himself sent off walking off the pitch arguing with the ref at half time
We decided to clear off at that point and get the early train back
Pre mobile phones, didn’t know we’d won 4-3 until I saw it in the paper following morning

Remember that game too, impressive capitulation even by Spurs standards.

I get the feeling that it's the die hards that leave. They are the ones who either get really annoyed by what they're seeing and feel so strongly about it that they want to send a message, even if it means they miss some of the game.

I mean people who only go every so often, or hardly at all are going to stay to experience it right to the end.

In regards to Newcastle I completely understand it. My grandfather's from Newcastle and they have drove him insane for a couple of decades now. With Mike Ashley, you can understand how people are extremely annoyed.

They've got Bruce in now who can do a job, keep them up but at some point they becomes not enough. Fans need to be entertained at least, if they're not competing and if they're not, they'll show it. Walking out is one of the ways to show it.

Great question!

It's something I've never done but have wanted to on more than one occasion.

Many years ago we were at a match between (don't laugh) Bristol Rovers and Port Vale

It was dreadful, tedious, boring as fack. I've never know a game drag so much

At half time we started to leave thinking it was full time but eventually realised it was only HT when nobody else was leaving.

I'm not making a statement about Newcastle, but it's an entertainment sport. Like arsenal as soon as you feel like you are being exploited for loyalty you can't help but feel jaded

It’s very odd OP, and it has crept into all walks of life.

It’s like people see getting out in front of other people as a competition.

I genuinely cannot fathom why you’d go to a football match and leave as much as 10 mins early.

‘People’ are weird.

If you don't actually care that much, it's not too surprising. If you treat a season ticket like a Cineworld card, and you aren't enjoying the "movie" you leave. I'm almost so apathetic as to my passion for football I could possibly do it. For my City supporting mate, this is a golden era and that the talent on show means he couldn't leave even if they were a few goals down. His perspective is shaped by enjoying kinkladze's skill despite getting spanked each week.

I don’t think it is about not enjoying it though - I honestly think it’s about getting ahead of the crowd.

I suppose it’s a myriad of factors and you’re probably right that is part of it.

But I also think nowadays that people are so used to convenience and driving everywhere they go that delays frustrate them more than ever.

My nephew (23) is off to a Barca match in Feb. Obviously REALLY appreciates Messi, but if Messi wasn't playing and they were 2-0 down he might decide to leave and buy a t shirt from hard rock cafe before getting flight home. Barca and the Spanish tourism industry are probably happy enough regardless

I'm probably most emotionally invested in the England women's team these days, the 1921 fa decision and a documentary I watched which spoke about when they banned the sport for women. So the rise of the women's sport and the women's national side is for some rather obscure reason connects with me.

Reports suggest the more expensive the ticket, the more likely fans leave early which probably suggests that people who pay top dollar and are frustrated and angry by what they have seen leave, especially when they haven't been entertained.

Germany doesn't appear to have this problem, where ticket prices are much lower.

That makes absolutely no sense.

The Emirates seems to suffer from this too.

Arsenal are in the midst of a long identity crisis.

The loss of Highbury (their spiritual home), the loss of Wenger, the fall from footballs power platform to also rans of the Premier League - all coinciding with the fact that they pay the most for their tickets.

It's sad to see to be honest. Arsenal fans now respond to every draw and every loss with mass boos and the unrest outside of the Emirates has become prime viewing.

I often watch their fans and it's like they don't even enjoy being supporters any more. The desire to restore Arsenal back to it's former glories has become so intense in the stands that the club always seems to be on eggshells.

As for the Etihad, I can't understand why we often see empty seats. They're spoilt. Imagine getting to watch KDB, Aguero every fortnight.

Can’t say I’ve ever done that, but can see how people do, a snap decision, a “fack this” but they probably regret it once their on the train.
One thing I do do is leave a game couple minutes before full time if we are cruising. London transport all the way home so can’t risk getting caught behind a crowd and adding 45 minutes to my journey.

Fans can leave whenever they want. The time to worry is when the fans don't even show up. Lots of empty seats at the CP game this past week-end.

Reports on why fans leave early. I've read a few over the past few years.

What is it that doesn't make sense to you? You don't believe there is a correlation between how much you pay and how angry you get at what value you're getting?

You mean to say there's fans not going to games and leaving early? Well they're just weird.

The only time I've stormed out early was when Arsenal put 5 past us at the Etihad.

Must have been about 15 years ago though.
