Difference between them is like night and day. Do you think Jimenez worries about a lack of service when it doesn’t come? He just goes into his own half and gets the ball and brings the play into the attacking half.
While I would love Jimenez, the point here is that Martial just isn’t good enough to be our #9. Hopefully Ighalo brings us closer to what we need and then in the summer go out and get a top #9.
People may point to the goals scored between the two but I know which one would suit the team better out of the two. And it ain’t Tony M.
Martial and Jimenez

Martial is not a lone striker who can bring others into play. He is more of a modern winger who comes inside and shoots.
Jimenez, Benzema, Aguero, Jesus and Firmino are the type of strikers who can hold the ball up and link with others.

Nailed it in one. It is amazing that some Utd fans cannot see it.
He's a wide forward
----------------------------------------------------------------------
All fans can see that - myself included
It’s the manager that can’t see it
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Whom should he be playing at nine then Robb?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That’s something that should have been asked of Ole back in Feb/March when he knew Lukaku was leaving.
He chose to go into the new season and have Martial as his first choice 9. It’s not a case of injuries making him play Martial out of position.

Why was Fernandes playing so deep, is that why we signed him so he can play as a CDM. What a waste in that case. Give it a few months and Utd will coach the talent out of him and he’ll look as bad as Martial and all the other talented players we’ve signed over the years. We really need to hire a progressive coach, not an amateur or has beens.
Can’t see us improving with Ole, even if he was given an entire new team. Just not good enough. Pretty sure none of Shef Utd players would get into Utd’s first 11, yet they’re ahead of us. Why, because they’re a well coached team...makes a difference you know.

He was playing at number six in the second half because McT is injured, Pogba is injured and Matix was suspended.
Any of the three of them plays there alongside Fred and Bruno plays at ten if they’re available.
The only other option yesterday was Pereira, who was busy having one of his worst games in a United shirt.
Ole made the switch to get Bruno and Mata on the ball more and Pereira off it, and it actually improved us quite a bit.
What he should have done is got Pereira off sooner. But we’re absolutely bare bones at the moment.

Ole doesn’t sign players, Robb.
Do you actually believe he told Ed in the summer that, yeah, no problems, you can sell Lukaku and we’ll have enough firepower?
You don’t think he had a list of number nines for Ed to go and get one of?

I think you underestimate how much power Ole does have compared to what Poch had to deal with at Spurs.
He does have a say and every party involved in the process have said so.
But even if he had no power he does have the power to play what he has and even with a full squad he’s chosen to play Martial at 9. He could have put Martial back on the leg where he’s dangerous and played Rashford at 9. Yesterday he could have started this side - especially as we don’t have a game for 16 days and a win yesterday was vital for top 4 hopes..
DDG
AWB Lindelof Maguire Williams
Fred
Bruno Mata
James Greenwood Martial
Williams played well against Traore a few weeks back but offers far more going forward than Shaw and Fred could have done what he did yesterday and stop breaks the Wolves players. And if Ole wanted to take more risks he could have played three at the back and had Maguire step up and help the midfield when we had the ball.
Sure, it would make us more vulnerable but as Neville said yesterday, being vulnerable and allowing Wolves to attack in numbers gives us way more space to attack them. It wasn’t just that they came with little ambition - they also knew that we weren’t going to show much ambition either so had no motivation to attack in numbers.

He might have a say, but he can’t literally go out and negotiate to buy a player.
He can tell Ed, “If you sell Lukaku, you *have* to bring me in one of the players on this list to replace him,” and then watch his only number nine leave the club without a replacement coming in. That really isn’t his fault.
For me, for all his faults, Martial is probably a better option at nine than Rashford, largely due to the fact that Rashford is the better option off the left. The fact of the matter is, and I’ve been saying this, as have others, for a long, long time, neither is a centreforward.
He could have started Greenwood through the middle, that’s true. He was always going to play with two DMs, because that’s what he does every week, so I’m not going to pretend we’d possibly line up as you’ve suggested, but I would have started him on the left in place of James, who is next to useless when you’re playing against a super deep back line.
What really hamstrung us yesterday was *given a two man midfield*, the need to play Pereira in the two. We really didn’t have any other options on paper. As it happens, Bruno turned out to be a better option there as he demonstrated after the tactical switch. Which is ridiculous, because the man is not a holding midfielder.
We really would have been better off with Garner yesterday. I am struggling to remember a worse group of performances than those of Pereira, Martial and James (although not his fault) yesterday.
It’s credit to the other players that we managed to conjure anything at all, tbh.

Ed’s team had better be working on summer deals already, because they need to pull their facking fingers out. Only being able to negotiate two or three deals isn’t going to cut it.
I am certainly not one for wholesale squad changes, but we desperately need, absolutely minimum, a CB, number six, a right winger, and a number nine.
And each of them needs to walk into the first team.

We’ll likely have a new manager too
Hopefully if it is Poch and he has agreed something that they are all in communication and have targets lined up.

That was the expectation when ole was appointed about this time last year so unless Ed gets a transfer team together I'm afraid we will just get more of the same regarding signings
