It’s time to talk Chilwell. How is this guy a professional footballer? He’s one of the most overrated players in world football - even burgling his way into the England team. He’s honestly about as good as Paul Konchesky. Let’s just look at his qualities
- He can’t control a football
- He’s quick but when he gets into the opposition half, he runs out of ideas and passes the ball backwards
- He can’t cross a ball
- One of the worst defenders I’ve seen at the club. He can’t track back, has no positional awareness and gets skinned regularly
- He fails to understand who he should be marking
- He cannot deal with set pieces
The only thing he has going for him is being young, English and quick. That basically ticks every box for most clubs these days but Chilwell is absolutely hopeless as a footballer
Liverpool dodged a massive bullet when they went for Robertson instead - the difference between the two is phenomenal. I’ve seen City and Chelsea are interested in him - that’s great, we need to sell him in the summer while we still can

Yeah well TAA's had better players than Gashford in his back pocket too, hes a kid and hes going to have bad games especially with the system he plays in which exposes him defensively more if you like. This he cant defend crap is clearly bollox though by people who dont watch him or understand football very well.

Zaha had a good game vs him once too, then Klopp told him theres more than one way to defend against the likes of Zaha and thats to fight fire with fire, attack the space Zaha leaves not tracking back etc. and in the following half im pretty sure TAA got us the win by doing what Klopp told him to do in the 2nd half.

That doesn’t make him good at defending btw, that’s just clever tactically by klopp. It won’t help him when someone good comes running at/past him.

i've mentioned numerous times hes had good defensive performances, issue is hes rarely specifically tasked with focusing more on his defensive duties than offensive, only ones were games like City and PSG in the CL.

I've mentioned my views on Chillwell too, i still would have liked us to sign him for 10m aswell as Robertson, even though Milners done a great job covering. I think as a player hes got everything needed just needs to improve on certain things to his game, a coaches dream really, a player you could help develop into the best out there if hes capable of learning.
As Lesta fans have said hes clearly had good games, issue is hes dropped off rather than gradually improving as he should, no one knows why but its clear. Still at 22 and how things can easily change i wouldnt be writing him off if he was a Liverpool player.

That said, Rodgers is a useless defensive coach so can't see him improving defensively under him thats for sure.

Sorry, taa is suspect defensively imo, he makes up with it with his attacking and passing, but I’d target him if I was an opposing manager. By far the weakest link in your back 4.

I’m sure they have, but they need the players to do it. He’s well covered by your superb centre backs when he does mess up. But he certainly is the weakest defender in your back4.

I was saying the same about Chilwell when Liverpool were chasing him. I was saying he's average and overrated but some Liverpool fans like laughed at me and thought he's the best young LB

Ha! This morning having read through all this thread it had somehow changed to talking about the Liverpool back 4 rather than Chilwell in ours! (In my defence I had been to the rather excellent Leicester beer festival earlier so didn't pick this up last night...…….). Notwithstanding that, the comment I responded to could easily have been applicable to our back 4, Chilwell is easily the weakest defender!
