Incredible how Rodgers has got you to third with a first team regular who shouldn't be a professional

Well maybe that’s because there’s 10 other players on a pitch that generally contribute to winning a game of football. Facktard

That just can’t happen. He’s absolutely horrific and should be nowhere near the England team. I’d rather see Luke Shaw play ahead of him

2 goals 3 assists too, cant be that many fullbacks in the league better than that.

Sounds exactly like luke shaw another massively overhyped player. Showing some decent form now but is a million miles away from a top fullback

Obviously this is hyperbole, but I'm not a big fan. He'd have been good under poch because he is rapid but generally his lack of end product is concerning

I remember giving a brief report on here following City’s League Cup defeat at Hull. It was Chilwell’s debut and the night the floodlights failed at what was the KC Stadium. It was also the early stages of our PL winning season.

I mentioned that he looked a great prospect at the time, pushing through the midfield from his full-back position and controlling the ball well. Little did I think it would come to this so soon.

i think hes a decent footballer, hes still got a lot to learn, mainly defensively but could use some work offensively too. As a coach hes someone you'd like to work with im sure but then again so are moreno and aurier. Its all about if you can improve them or not.

Just goes to show the hype machine should always be ignored. Bursts on the scene looks half decent, suddenly he’s sort a fortune, then the initial purple patch wears off and he looks average. Story of most young players who are English.

Not to say he won’t become a very good player, I’m sure he will with the right coaching.

Ole is right - he was massively hyped on the back of a handful of impressive performances. Because he’s English

We had the same with shaw. Meanwhile klopp’s scours spot a far better player in Robertson at Hull who didn’t have the hype (but anyone who’d seen hull would tell you he looked very good)?and paid less than a 3rd of the price we did. Now looks who’s better.

I think the question is what's happened to him. He was very good last season, a real step up I thought. But at the start of the season he threw in some bad ones (I was at Liverpool away where he was genuinely shocking), then looked like he'd turned a corner, and now looks like a League 2 player with pace.

I don't get what's up with him. Whether he doesn't want to be here anymore, something in his personal life, I don't know. Something like depression strikes me as a possibility. Physically he looks fine but his head's somewhere else.

Regardless, it should be clear by now that this isn't some temporary thing that he can play through and we should be giving Justin his chance.

If we are relying on Fatty Shaw for the Euros we are absolutely facked. We have good options at right back so would be tempted just to try one of those there, either Walker or Wan Bissaka at LB then Trent at RB.

The one thing shaw is good at is defending, which taa isn’t great at. So playing him out of position on the left, despite his attacking prowess isn’t a great idea, and awb is equally poor as shaw in attacking sense.

England's right back options make England's left back options look tragic

I have, he’s still a crap attacker.

He had a period earlier in the season where, statistically, he was one of the best performing players in the league.

Seems 6/7 week's of that is all it takes these days.

TAA is actually fine at defending as Sane has found out on numerous occasions and one of the reasons he probably fell out with Pep as Pep stopped trusting him as much after being schooled in the CL over 2 legs by Trent... as has Neymar and plenty of others come to think of it issue is in a system where hes encouraged and often so far up he can often be caught out.

When TAA is tasked with focusing more on his defensive responsibilities hes shown hes more than capable, this TAA isnt great at defending is bollox

Sorry, taa is suspect defensively imo, he makes up with it with his attacking and passing, but I’d target him if I was an opposing manager. By far the weakest link in your back 4.

He looks like he’s trying to hard, almost as though he’s trying to do the next thing before he’s finished doing what he needs to do first. Like thinking about the cross, pass before he’s controlled. He was playing some great one touch play mid season. I don’t know whether it’s a confidence thing, he’s been told to move the ball faster or he’s trying to live up to his hype. He looks like a confidence player and he’s kicking himself when he’s making mistakes so probably not helping when people get on his back. He does struggle when no one is ahead of him so struggles with 532 and Barnes has been tucking in more in 4141 so that’s not helping him. It’s a tough one but dropping him completely may break him.

Yet no opposing managers have thought to try this against the best defence in the league.

Weird

I’m sure they have, but they need the players to do it. He’s well covered by your superb centre backs when he does mess up. But he certainly is the weakest defender in your back4.
