A more interesting question is why we don't love him more, given his record, his achievements, and the hugely successful period of club history he's associated with. Is it the long, decline in which he was just about good enough (amid a dwindling team) to keep his place? Is it the disloyalty (but then other players get away with threatening to leave)?

I remember absolutely loving Rooney in his first few seasons. I remember loving him more than Ronaldo, thinking he was more important to the team (at least until about 2008), certainly recognising him as 'one of us' more than Ronaldo. Gradually that affinity faded away, and I don't really know myself why.

Probably, he was kept easily about 2 or 4 years too long and that is a long time to watch someone decline to the point where they were barely good enough to play for us.

A good question RR I feel almost the same. Maybe not loved him like I have one or two others. I think it's because I never felt he was one of us, and his heart was with Everton. Never stopped him giving his all thought.

I can definitely see him managing Everton within the next 10 years

If only Wazza was a bit more selfish - he could have stayed in better fitness. A box-to-box player can't last as long as a more selfish player like CR7. Wayne left a lot of himself on our pitch and looks it!

Wayne doesn’t need to run around much nowadays. He may not be as fleet of foot but his football brain is even more developed now than it was at United. He plays his football a different way too. He knows him limitations and I’d liken him to Pirlo now.
He stands out in the championship as you’d expect but he ran the show in the third round when we beat Palace away and they had their best eleven playing.
You’ll need to have a plan for Wayne otherwise he’ll be taking the mickey.

Remarkable really, because he spent much of his career being played out of the position he would have been most effective in.
