Hey guys and girls
Been discussing cuphead, dark souls, nioh etc. a bit recently and know that people love a good boss ranking article / youtube video, so I thought I'd do one for some of the more notorious games I've completed in terms of difficulty.
Easiest - Hardest (will update as I get better at balancing this and real work!!)
Also included how many times it took me to beat the bosses in brackets (multiple numbers for multiple playthroughs).
Dark Souls
Ceaseless Discharge (1/1) I used the tactic of just running back to the gate after you aggro the boss and he one-shots himself...maybe I should fight him properly one day
Asylum Demon (2/2)
Taurus Demon (1/1) - Up the ladder...repeat
Pinwheel (1/1)
Moonlight Butterfly (1/1) - Worst boss ever?
Bed of Chaos (3/3) - No, no. THIS is the worst boss ever
Gaping Dragon (2/1) - The moment you realise that you're playing maybe the best game you've ever played
Iron Golem (2/2)
Seath the Scaleless (2/2)
Bell Gargoyles (2/2)
Great Grey Wolf Sif (2/1) - Absolutely heartbreaking
Stray Demon (3/2)
Firesage Demon (2/1)
Capra Demon (4/1) - F**K DOGS
Chaos Witch Quelaag (4/2) - Nice rack
Centipede Demon (2/2)
Crossbreed Priscilla (1/2)
The Four Kings (3/2) - The abyss you fight them in makes depth perception really tricky and you end up slicing into thin air thinking you're next to them
Gravelord Nito (5/4) - would be easy if I knew how to make a divine weapon
Ornstein & Smough (12/1) - was particularly impressed with my '1' in the remastered version
Gwyn (7/4) - that piano <clap>
Dark Souls III
Iudex Gundyr (1/1)
Deacons of the Deep (1/2)
High Lord Wolnir (2/2) - Mr T wants his bracelets back
Yhorm the Giant (1/1) - Never tried this without the stormbreaker, which would be interesting
Vordt of the Boreal Valley (2/1)
Ancient Wyvern (1/4) - decided I had to beat all the baddies rather than just run through them on my 2nd playthrough
Crystal Sage (2/2)
Curse-Rotted Greatwood (5/1)
Old Demon King (2/1)
Champion Gundyr (4/3)
Aldrich, Devourer of Gods (3/3) - why can't I remember this boss??
Oceiros, the Consumed King (3/3)
Dancer of the Boreal Valley (1/1) - I don't know how
Pontiff Sulyvahn (6/2) - apparently easy if you can parry...I cannot parry
Abyss Watchers (5/2) - SUCH A COOL FIGHT
Soul of Cinder (6/4) - Gwyn on roids
Lothric and Lorian (25/5) - If I have to hear "this is our resting place, but you can stay here, if you like" again I'll cry
Dragonslayer Armour (literally like 40/10) - Nobody else seems to have a problem with this guy. Genuinely made me put the game down for a couple months
Nameless King (20) - only done it once
Bloodborne
The Witch of Hemwick (1)
Celestial Emissary (1)
The One Reborn (1)
Cleric Beast (3)
Micolash, Host of the Nightmare (4) - that spell, though
Vicar Amelia (3)
Moon Presence (2) - had no health whatsoever after killing Gerhman the first time
Blood Starved Beast (4)
Shadow of Yharnam (4)
Father Gascoigne (2) - also such a cool fight
Darkbeast Paarl (3)
Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos (3) - stay between the tails
Mergo's West Nurse (2)
Martyr Logarius (4) - parry (it's easier on bloodborne)
Amygdala (3) - terrifying
Rom, the Vacuous Spider (20) - stupid, stupid, stupid weird spider rat
Gehrman, the First Hunter (30) - what an end to an amazing game. Small moment to appreciate the best line in gaming: "tonight, Gehrman joins the hunt".
Also makes my comment about parrying being easier in bloodborne completely redundant
Nioh
Derrick the Executioner (quite ashamed to say this: 3)
Honda Tadakatsu (1)
Tachibana Muneshige (1)
Great Centipede (1)
Hundred Eyes (1)
Joro-Gumo (7)
Gasha-dokuro (2)
Obsidian Samurai (1)
Kelley (2)
Onryoki (12) - brutal for the first proper boss. Also makes you realise that the invincibility frames are NOT like the soulsborne games
Saika Magoichi (3)
Otani Yoshitsugu (2)
Ogress (4)
Okatsu (2)
White Tiger (3)
Shima Sakon (1) - again, I don't know how
Ishida Mutsunari (3)
Oda Nobunaga (4)
Hino-enma (6)
Nue (10) - the lighting charge up has almost no foreboding and one-shots you
Yuki-onna (8)
Giant Toad (6) - what an absolute don of a pipe-smoking frog
Yamata-no-Orochi (13)
Umi-bozu (50) - I don't wanna talk about it
Cuphead
Goopy Le Grande (2)
The Root Pack (2)
Cagney Carnation (6)
Ribby & Croaks (2)
Phantom Express (3)
Captain Brineybeard (2)
Hilda Berg (10)
Wally Warbles (10)
Werner Werman (8)
Baroness von Bon Bon (12)
Sally Stageplay (12)
Djimmi the Great (15)
Rumor Honeybottoms (20)
Cala Maria (5)
Beppi the Clown (10 but not confident of how)
The Devil (20)
King Dice (40)
Dr. Kahl's Robot (40)
Grim Matchstick (probably like 100 times)

I wouldn't worry too much about Demon's Souls, it is basically a remaster, I'm sure it will remain faithful to the original.

Rooney, since you have played all these games, you got me wondering. How would you rank them on difficulty, and your favourites?

Hey Amiga
I will try to add how many times it took me to beat each boss (bearing in mind, with the soulsborne games, the first will always be the most taxing!) and a little description / tip where relevant.
In terms of overall game difficulty, I definitely died more in cuphead than any of the others, but I suppose you have to take the game mechanics / pace into account.
I think I'd say:
Bloodborne
DS III
Nioh
DS I
With DS I, I remember it being impossible on my first run through on PS3, but I recently played the remastered version on PS4 and found it significantly easier than DS III or Bloodborne. Whether that's just the aging of the game or getting better as time goes on, I can't say.

Not quite the same in terms of difficulty but this reminds me of when I played Bloodbourne for the first time, I couldn't seem to equip any weapon at the beginning of the game and then I came across the werewolf, the first enemy you encounter in the game. I ended up killing him with my fists but it took me about 50 go's
I knew the game was gonna be ridiculously hard but not that hard so early on.
Bloodborne is not that clear in the beginning. I too was trying to take him out with my fists. I gave up after about 7 goes.
So fair play for your dedication. huge respect.

I played Bloodbourne first and found it challenging but with a good difficulty curve.
DS3 and the nameless king was far harder than anything in BB imo. You fight a dragon, a double hard boss and the camera all at once 😅
I felt unbeatable too after doing dancer flawlessly first time, as I didn't realise after the prev boss it would take me straight to the Dancer. I'm told one of the dlc bosses is way tougher....sod that 😅

How about the bosses in Bloodbourne, they make all other bosses look like pusssys.

I played BB first. I used that as a bench mark and can safely say nameless king was far tougher for me than any BB boss by miles.

I thought Dark Souls 3 was easy compared to the first two.
