They’ve done some really impressive business this summer.
Werner & Ziyech already in the door with Chilwell and Havetz likely to follow but that will likely bring spending to over 200 million.
Maybe they will spend more but unlikely even Chelsea can spend much more in the current climate unless they make a big sale which is also unlikely.
Chelsea’s biggest problem last season was in central defence and the keeper. To put into context they conceded they conceded 54 goals in the league last season. That was the worst in the top 10, equal to 15th place Brighton and 4 more than 14th placed Palace.
You can have one of the best attacks in the world but you’re not challenging for a league with that defence.
It’s hard to see a big money CB and keeper coming in this summer. They’ve been linked with Thiago Silva on a free but he’s nearly 36 and will struggle in the PL at this stage of his career.
I feel Chelsea have the 3rd best squad in the league overall and think they will improve but until they sort the defence they are still a long way off Liverpool and City.

Warner and Havertz are good but Ziyech is pretty overrated and Chilwell very much so.

The 5 goals, 4 assists and being in the UEFA team of Europa league prove otherwise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
all of his goals came in the group stage/round of 32, he didn't score in our last 4 matches. mkhitaryan was more instrumental in that cup win, and he won't live long in the memory of most united fans.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Doesn’t matter who was most instrumental, point was Zlatan contributed to the last trophies wins. Granted he was injured and missed the semi finals and final.
After him, Fernandes seems to be the only player to have came in with that same leadership and winning attitude that galvanises the side. Unless I’m forgetting someone.

Chelsea undoing will be the pressure on Lampard. He can't use the transfer ban excuse (even though they spend 100m and 2 players). Roman has given him the cash and now he has to ensure they challenge for the title and CL.
Towards end of season Lampard has shown the pressure get to him. First his ridiculous argument with Klopp and then get schooled by Arteta in FA cup final.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
His argument with Klopp was not ridiculous. Those things happen all the time. Just look at Klopp. But it was ridiculous he cried to the media about it afterwards.

I agree with the OP. It is hard to imagine Chelsea can sign all the players that they need to in this window. That is why we don't think they can be title challengers this season.
I will point out though trhrough the Morata and Hazard sales we already had 180m cash to spend.
We are likely to bri g in a further 70m through player sales so in theory we could have another 100m to spend after Havertz.

Gaping holes in midfield, LB and abysmal goalkeeping were more of a pressing issue than CB.
Didn't have the magnificence of a fit Kante to plug the gaps in midfield, bound to suffer without his top-class presence.

I was surprised they didn’t move for Ake

I don’t think he’s any better than what they have in reality.

Silva would stroll the Premier League. Would be a big improvement to the Chelsea defence and ideal next to Rudiger or Zouma.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wouldn’t agree with that whatsoever. Can’t think of any player coming to the PL at that age and being a success.
Would be a bit like Blanc for us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Been a stroll for him so far, should’ve put money on it

Just weakens City’s xi for a player that wouldn’t make the 30.
