He's only the most talented english midfielder in the country, unfortunately he's not at a fashionable enough club for Englands hierarchy and the FA.
Southgate is a complete muppet. Just another corporate suit.

When you take away the fact he’s not actually that good, you’re left with a diving, cheating, whinging, cry baby. He’s way down the pecking order for left mid.
And asking why Phillips got in ahead of him, they aren’t competing for the same position, Phillips is DM and will become a regular.

Ridiculous decision by beaky faced Southgate yet again. The England squad is competitive but you cannot justify picking Ward Prowse, Phillips and Mount over Grealish. And all these muppet Leeds fans going on, yes Phillips shouldn't be anywhere near the squad I'm afraid, never played in the Prem or for any of the England youth teams, it's ridiculous. You don't need three DMs anyway, we're not exactly playing the top teams in these two games.
It's not a question of not being at a fashionable enough club, Villa are near the top for producing the most England players, only behind Liverpool and Spurs I think. Leeds, Southampton, Wet Spam, Burnley all have players in the squad, none of them are fashionable. And seeing as he picked Mings it can't be anything against the club, it's personal I think.
If he had any decency he would add him to the squad now that Maguire has been withdrawn, but I won't hold my breath.

Declan Rice and JWP couldn't even tie Jack's shoe laces. A complete embarassing joke. I'm sure Southgate will give the press the usual PR guff about how hard it was to deny him his 1st cap whilist giving lesser players another chance to prove how great they are playing nothing teams in a pointless tournament.

He’s not competing with them for a spot. He’s competing with Sancho and Rashford.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No he isn't. He should play as an 8 as he can create and dribble and has the composure and balance to play there and see a lot of the ball. Rashford and Sancho are pace merchants, nothing like Grealish, great players I agree but completely different player to Grealish. The only similar player to Grealish in the squad is Foden and he was selected. They should both be in and Southgate should be building the team around both of them.

Building the team around Jack Grealish ffs

Southgate disagrees. He’s said as much, Greenwood, Rashford, Sancho and Sterling are the widemen he was in competition with. Not being picked ahead of them is hardly sacrilege.
Sancho can do everything Grealish can and more. So I can understand why he didn’t pick him for the left wing. And Rashford scores goals. He’s not getting past that competition on the left.
And he’s not really proven much in the middle. And was in poor form after lockdown whereas Mount and Foden were playing well.
I actually wanted Grealish to get in the squad as he’s a good player that has a lot to offer. But it’s not difficult to understand why he wasn’t called up, and if you’d pull your head out of your aris you’d see this too.

Rude. Even if you're right about Mount and Foden (v arguable about Mount, his form has been average recently), then why does he need to call up Phillips? He's never performed outside the Championship. Yes he plays a different position to Grealish but do we really need Winks/Rice/Phillips (all defensive minded players) in the squad? Then there's Ward Prowse. I think he's had a good season and he's a slightly different player to Grealish but there is no way on Earth he should get in over Grealish.
I think Grealish should be starting for England but I am a bit biased. However, he should at least be in the squad even if he doesn't play. He's got the technical ability to play for England regardless of what people may think of him and he's a bit of a maverick who would bring something completely different and unpredictable to the squad. Surely Southgate would want to see him in raining amongst that group of players and make a judgement. Even if I was a non-Villa fan I could see that.
But we all know Southgate can't tell his a*se from his elbow and is only England manager because he suits the FA. Pretty sure he will be shown up for what he is at some point, a mediocre manager who was awful at Boro and is very lucky to be where he is now.

Because they are the players for the deeper midfield positions. Grealish isn’t competing with them. Southgate’s already said who his competition is. And while I think Grealish should be in the squad, especially as I don’t think we needed Abraham with Rashford and Greenwood there, the outrage at his exclusion is hilarious. As I mentioned earlier, it’s like he’s excluded a prime Wayne Rooney.

Switch to a good club

Grealish can play anywhere from mid mid to further forward. He's flexible. There's a whole area he can play in. Southgate's "competing with Rashford" is ridiculous, a pretty weak excuse.
If Southgate had an open mind, he'd pick him (there's room in the squad), stick him on the bench, and play him when the right opportunity arises to see how he does. Absolutely nothing to be lost. And frankly I think Grealish would be in his element; he performs on big occasions, he always has.
That way it would also introduce Grealish to the English coaching setup.
