Hi all, following on from Diamonds article below what do we considering success this season under Jose? It’s clear we have made a lot of movement in the transfer market this window for short term successes.
With that in mind what would constitute as failure for everyone? For me CL football and trophy is the minimum - one without the other is a failure.
What does everyone else consider?
What defines success?

For the next 10 years, would you rather be in the CL every season, but not win a trophy in that 10 years, because you concentrate on qualifying on the CL each year?
Or would you rather win a trophy every season for 10 years but not qualify for the CL at all cos you were busy winning trophies?
The trophies you win in this scenario are the carling cup and the FA cup, obviously.

So last week of the season, you have a match to secure top 4 against Arsenal, who will get top 4 if you don't win, followed by the FA Cup final against Chelsea 2 days later. The players are complaining of fatigue, most saying they will only be fit enough for one of the games. Which do you prioritise?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
In this instance the first game. Are we going to run through every possible scenario?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sorry your team fails to win the FA cup final. Another trophyless season. Similar scenario next season. What's your move? This could go on for a while...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Do we have the same top 4 scenario every year while being in the FA Cup final? I think football would get a bit tedious for me then.
Hypothetical for you; Scotland finally get to a tournament and win a trophy (Euros) but it means England win a trophy, Scotland become independent but under the caveat that Boris Johnstone is the PM for the next 20 years and Dominic Raab fingers your mum. Do you take it?

So Scotland win the Euros, England win the pathetic Nations League. We get independence while England are stuck with Boris and my mum gets a bit of fun. What are the downsides?

Scotland would get Boris in this scenario. I think your mum would have fun because of the constant aggression of Raab, Michael Gove seems much better with the soft fingery hands.

Depends entirely on context, surely. I don't think anyone would class it as a failure if Bayern dropped into the Europa and beat Spurs in the first knockout round. Similarly Spurs could draw big clubs away in both domestic cups.
I think all you can really say is that Spurs should, barring bad luck and bad draws, be competing seriously for all three cup competitions. An early exit would only be understandable as long as there are mitigating circumstances - ie. a horrible draw early on or a horrific spate of injuries to key players.
The only one you can really hang a "prediction" on is the league, because you know who Spurs are facing. Given the backing Mourinho has received, I don't think he has any excuse to finish outside the top 4. I don't expect a title challenge if Spurs go deep in the cups, but if the cups go pear shaped then just top 4 alone would feel close to failure for me.

Edin...you'd take the mick cup all day & call that a good season
