I do agree with Mamba’s point about giving the site more of a free reign. Obviously some posters have deserved to be (and deservedly been) banned. And when they inevitably return as a “new” member, deserve to be banned again once they are found out. But I have found that the majority of posters here are able to quickly move on. Have a heated debate on one thread, forgotten about in the next.

I personally don’t like the filter option for that reason. If someone is being silly on a thread I’ve created, I’d rather just delete their comments rather than filter them out right.

Of course you can delete comments but what if they don't go away? You can't keep deleting comments all throughout your own article.

In my opinion bans are having the opposite of the intended impact. Many "wums" are gone but it hasn't necessarily led to more football talk, just less activity on the site.

I can see my view is unpopular, but I feel people want to talk football but not if it's like a funeral or university lecture style. Its boring and doesn't actually attract new posters IMO.

When there was more free reign, there was more wumming, banter and also more proper football talk than we have now.

One mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter. People wum in the morning and talk football in the afternoon etc. One day you are called a good poster, the next a wum. Removing people entirely from the site is cumulatively and ultimately a loss to them but also to the site in my view.

Also, I'm not saying people can now be racist or homophobic etc. Not that kind of thing. Obviously at that level they should be banned immediately.

I honestly feel the site is paying for being over moderated, not under moderated.

Since introducing the filter, admin has still had to ban many posters. There is a clear complain culture among some cliques on this site that has contributed to the site being less colourful.

IMO, introducing the filter should have been the end of Admins involvement. If you don't like it you know where the filter is. This allows OPs to control threads as well as the proposals I've seen above.

The filter should work IMO and that should be that.
When it was a free for all like the old BBC606 the place was buzzing.

Nah, people like that just make the site a worse place.

Best left in their box without any attention imo.

Occaisionally drop in here to see if anything has changed since I used enjoy the observations of my fellow blues. It hasn't. It is still destroyed by a bunch of Liverpool fans who have lots of previous form in destroying things. I really do understand now why the rags despise them so much - it's not the team, it's their followers. Horrible bunch, lacking in any self-awareness or morality.

Sadly the minority who can't / won't do that tend to spoil a lot of articles.

It's got better though I think, as the trolls have been banned or limited in what they're permitted to do.
