I think it’s just your board 😊

I think our fans are bored by the wumming from fans from a certain club who ruin every thread which is trying to debate football.

Maybe it is City fans who have got fed up.

I still see the same sort of numbers for members currently online as I usually do, although I did notice the live thread was unusually quiet midweek during the CL games.

It's nearly 10 years, since BBC site closed. So it's safe to say a site like this is in a steady decline, which is fine. Even how people use social media has changed in those years. The concept of being moderated for content (that isn't extreme) is quite different to say a platform like Twitter and Facebook that are much less restrictive. If you are a 16 year old football fan, ja606 must seem absurd.

I'm happy for it to be a place who for whatever reason liked the strange days and look of the BBC site and all its quirks

The City board has always been quiet

I think there is potential for the site to attract more members through increased social media integration.

Perhaps the site could set up an onlyfans page?

Quite sad nevertheless how much less traffic the site gets compared to 5 years ago. A lot of users have gone as you expect but none have replaced them.

Can nothing more be done to attract more users? Never see this site advertised anywhere but understand budget concerns restrict that.

If you are happy with the number of users fair enough but there are very few other places you can have intelligent debate about sports with other fans. Can’t help but feel a trick is being missed here.

Can only imagine how the site feels for Sandy with everyone blocked

If you had never heard of the site and stumbled across it today, do you think what you saw would entice you to join, or would the constant hijacking of threads and general negativity/bitterness put you off?

I’d say it’s better than nothing and at least it’s moderated. It means this site is positively saint-like in comparison to the truly horrible stuff you read on social media, which I assume is where the new generation ‘debate’ sports.

If there’s anywhere I’m missing where that’s not the case, I’d love to know.

I don’t think it’s in decline but there’s certainly a circular motion feel to it, where the same old faces take over discussions that could otherwise be decent.

Whether it’s about sacking Ole, media bias against Spurs, or wherever, it just becomes boring.

Also, too many people come here to argue their entrenched view and have absolutely no intention of opening their mind. Very typical of social media though, so no fault of this site.

In the 'About JA606' introduction it says there are over 16,000 members. I think the most members I've seen online here in the past year is just over 200. So that would be only just over 1% of all members that use it.

I take it that the 16,000 members figure is old though.

We’re all guilty of it to a point. Though most of us, myself included, are more argumentative/contradictory than anything else. But at least that comes under the debate side of things.

It’s the outright wums and those driven by bitterness that let the site down, they treat this site the same as Twitter and unfortunately they’re allowed to get away with it too often. The price of free speech I guess.

Agreed, but I certainly wouldn’t include you in that group term.

I disagree with plenty on here but debate about a range of topics is a good thing.

I wasn’t trying to put myself in the group that are imo ruining the site, I was more saying that I’m kind of argumentative, which I can be in ‘real life’. But I don’t see it as a problem, at least it can keep debates going.

There are plenty on here who I guarantee would not act/speak the same way in real life as they do on here. They’re generally the ones who are ruining the site 👍

Absolutely term, completely agree

What I think could help is if the site had it’s own Live threads for various sports.

The football one is constantly having members banned which forces members to set up club only threads which are no good for the neutral wanting to discuss a game.

Arsenal_49 (I think) set up a great snooker thread

Formula 1 has been great this year but there doesn’t seem to be any real discussion

A site owned/run live thread pinned to the top of the various pages would take away power from individuals and encourage a more varied discussion.

Also! We don’t need a lot of the topics on the left hand side.

Bowls, baseball, fishing? When were they last discussed?! Replace them with a fantasy football & prediction section

Fair shouts.

I think interesting, semi well-written articles that stimulate debate, which there are more of them the site gets credit for, should be posted on social media. Eg. My latest one. Perhaps when we make such an article there’s a ‘tick’ option to include on ja606 social media. Once ok’d by Admin it could just be a simple automated FB post and tweet of the title of the article and a link to it. Eg. My latest article. (Don’t want to sound like that is rooting my own horn but just easiest example I can think of haha). Post it after match, a short statement that provides some intrigue and discussion, followed by the link.
