This is a league. It did not start in December, First month in, 4th seemed a massive achievement. You are who you are at the end of the league. The table does not lie. Our squad at the start of the season was barely a top 4 squad. Our performances too. We cannot pick arbitral points to decide how leagues end.

f@cking hell, i'm not picking an "abritral" point am i, i'm responding to the OP's question, which didn't ask about pre-season expectations, it asked about our expectations now.

as for our squad being "barely a top 4 squad" that is b()ll()cks.

Shifting goalposts. That could be funny during a game - a bit like It's a Knockout. Maybe even grease the penalty area.

And I am saying expectations should not change regardless Regardless of position now from the start of the league. Because we have had a lot of favourable conditions to get here, something that can change soon.

And I remember people saying our defence, Defensive midfield and right wing and striker needed additions for us to compete and how we did nothing to address it. All of a sudden, its boolucks now.

we finished 3rd last year, and that was with shaw playing half the minutes available, and pogba/greenwood/bruno playing 1/3 of them

so i'm sure plenty of people had us falling behind chelsea, some may have even had us falling behind spurs/arsenal/whoever, but you simply cannot say that it was "barely a top 4 squad".

Yes, to "compete" with the likes of City and Liverpool, not necessarily to repeat what we'd already done last season. Admittedly the likes of Chelsea and Spurs are likely to make top four harder this season that it was last, but our squad on paper is good enough to be right up there even if weaknesses in the first XI weren't fully addressed.

I believed it was, many didn't including a lot of pundits. Fact remains that many around us thought our squad took a step back. To be honest they were not wrong.
