He’s been our most disappointing player this season imo.
It’s frustrating as last season he was finally looking like he was becoming a real player. We all know he has ability but there has always been question marks about his mentality.
I remember last season after lockdown he scored a hat trick vs Sheff United and went off the pitch unable to keep the smile off his face. Then a few games after that I think it was against Villa we were leading 3-0 and he smacked one off the post and looked genuinely devastated not to have scored and then looked so annoyed to be subbed off in that game without scoring.
You’re then thinking this is finally the goal hungry Martial we wanted to see.
This season though he’s been poor since day one if we’re honest. He doesn’t look up for the fight and even glimpses of his natural ability are too few and far between.
Footage emerged from the other night of him making no attempt to get into scoring positions when the ball was wide. Cavani must have been tearing his hair out watching that.
He’s 25 now so no longer a kid and if he’s not getting it by now it may be time to move him on.
I’ve also noticed whenever he gets back in the France set up his form drops off severely until he’s dropped again.

I'm pretty sure he had a poor season when we signed Ibrahimovic, who also took his shirt number (i think). He has done the same following the signing of Cavani. I don't think he relishes competition for places which calls his mentality into question.
As previously said, we can all forgive bad performances, players are only human. But if you do have bad performances, you need to bring effort to compensate. His actions and body language doesn't show that.
I would stop short of actively trying to sell him just yet though.

When Zlatan joined he was previously playing left side and it was actually Rashford that Zlatan took the place of.
He was annoyed over a shirt number more than anything it seems.
Martial had already started the season badly before Cavani joined.
Cavani has been good but he hasn’t set the world on fire either. It’s not like he’s come in and taken Martial’s place immediately.

Feels like it’s been a waste of time investing all this time and money in him.

Shall we go full on sunken cost fallacy on him?

That’s Ed Woodward’s specialty.

Cavani has put fantastic numbers up though. A goal/assist every 90 mins in the PL I believe, which is what we need our nine to be delivering.
He also brings a completely different dynamic with his movement and physical presence, knows how to draw defenders for his teammates, holds the ball up better than our other strikers...
Credit to him, he’s been far better than I expected.

Yeah same. And most surprisingly he’s stayed fit. In fact, that’s been the case for most of our footballers this season.

It's a double whammy too, as Rashy gets moved about while Martial is trying to get into form.
Rashy should be on the left for every game he is fit, then let Cavani and Martial battle it out in the middle and Greeners and James on the right.

4 league goals from a Manchester United number ‘9’..
Totally unacceptable.
Sell today .
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good job you were not around in 1998 when Ole only managed 6 league goals in the season.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If I remember correctly , Ole was part of a 4 striker option that Fergi had , Ole was the super sub we had .
Martial is not our sub...
He’s our main man...
Ole cost us a few Bob, martial cost us a bit more.
Ole was great for us ,
Martial has been shieet for us...

I've always been a big fan of Martial, on song he is pretty lethal and one of those who gets fans bums off seats.
One of the best parts of his game, his link up and one twos in and around the box is completely missing this season.
Maybe he is one of those who will just never fulfil their potential. I'm willing to give him another season, he's had a few niggling injuries this year and who knows how Covid is affecting people on an personal level.
I've no doubt the second we sell him he will do well wherever he goes
