For once I think they have called something right. The problem with the rule is that if the 1st leg is 1-1 and the second leg 1-1 then the home team in the second leg get an extra 30 mins to score with home field advantage.

That would be the case anyway.
Go and have a lie down.

Yes but then the away goal rule still applies in extra time, so the away team scoring once in that period is like scoring 2 goals
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But they won't have home field advantage like you wrote.
You should not talk about football ever.

Just remove the away goals rule from extra time. Sorted

I'd prefer that I reckon. Away goals was brought in for a reason and it worked. Kind of come full circle now though.

That's exactly what I would've done.
I quite liked the away goal rule otherwise.

More penalty shootouts though now which is good.

Good news. They should scrap extra time now and go straight to pens.

Don't matter when your 2-0 up at halftime to a European minnow, and manage to lose 3-2.

I'm happy enough to see the back of it. The rule was brought in to encourage away teams to attack more, but just as often it leads to the home team defending more for fear of conceding an away goal. With that being the case, I see no point in having a rule that sees a team go through after drawing over 3 hours of football.
