Potential Rangers XI

I have a feeling that Rangers' interest in signing Veerman is fairly genuine but at the price being asked - I think it means that Kamara could be for the off. Luckily, we are well covered in midfield.

If he goes then the fee will have to be in and around the £15-17m bracket. Proven in Europe, proven at international level. Definitely needs to be around the £15m mark.

That could pay for Veerman and give us funds to snap up Doekhi from Vitesse.

A few will have to be moved on permanently/on loan to free up some wages/for the good of their own careers. Probably take your pick from:

Katic (Loan)
Edmundson (Loan)
Barker (Sell)
Jones (Sell)
Middleton (Sell)

Can see our first XI looking something along these lines:

--------------------------------Greegs---------------------------------------------

Tav---------------Goldson-------------Doekhi/Helander---------Borna

----------Lundstram---------Jack/Aribo----------Veerman----------

-------------Sakala--------------Alfie---------------Kent-------------------

I think that's a pretty solid team looking ahead.

Katic could still develop into a top end English Championship/bottom 6 EPL CB. His biggest issue is he wants to win every ball and gets pulled out of position trying to win headers. That can be coached out of him though.

I would rather keep Katic than Simpson based on what I have seen so far.

Lundstram for me is an excellent signing. He has been playing in the ‘best league in the world’ and was a stand out year 1 in a team that over performed. He’s 27 - so a great age.

I think with SGs guidance and playing in a team that’s mostly on the from foot he can be an upgrade on Jack who always seems very reluctant to have a shot at goal. He improved at that under SG but he’s still well off being a regular goal threat. When fit. Which wasn’t often for Jack last season.

Veerman would be an exciting signing. A CM playmaker with an eye for a goal. Get him signed.

It’s mad in most people’s top teams Roofe doesn’t start. For me (bar Defoe who is realistically a ten minute man this season)Roofe is by far the best finisher at the club. He needs to be kept within the box and the width of the posts. He’s wasted out ride.

Overall the addition of Veerman would be the cherry on top of an excellent squad.

I expect Kamara to go if Veerman comes in. If Morelos goes I am not sure we really need a replacement. If Itten gets a run of games and his confidence up I think he’s capable of hitting a good few goals. He still hasn’t fully settled in and doesn’t look relaxed when he plays.

But there is a player in there 👍

I do feel sorry for Katic - his injury couldn't have come at a worse time what with us improving massively and obviously winning the league. I like his aggressiveness but not sure that fits in with what our style is all about. I would still like to see him go on loan - perhaps with a top 6, English Championship side and see how he gets on.

I'm wasn't convinced on Simpson (I am probably being too harsh as he didn't get too much game time) - perhaps a full pre-season will see a more assured player next season though.

As has been previously mentioned - it is great to have these selection headaches.

Aye the squad is bursting with options.

Goldson and Helander are deffo the first choice duo for now. I think there was real interest in Helander but the fact he never got a sniff at the Euros might have cooled that for now.

There will deffo be players on the way out though so we just need to wait and see how the squad shapes up.

Veerman would be a treat long term replacement for Davis so I hope we get that one done.

I think the criticism of Simpson is very harsh, he hadn’t played much first 6 months of season then came in and only had a handful of games.

Saw in Davis’ first 6 months how poor (by his standards) he was after not playing much, and improved massively last season with a full pre-season. Think Simpson needs to be given time before we judge him.

He seems better on the ball than Katic to me, maybe not any quicker but think for our league games that’s needed.

I do think Lundstram is a great free signing - but seen with Duffy and plenty others that are good in the Prem but struggle here. I mean John Fleck was more of a standout than Lundstram, he doesn’t get a look in for Scotland yet other than McGinn and maybe Gilmour now there’s hardly top top quality there.

Simpson just seems a bit indecisive with his decision make re tackles and distribution. He looks like a well balanced footballer, nice left foot and decent height. He has a lot of the basic attributes to be an upgrade on Katic but he needs to put it all together.

I think Lundstram was at least as good as fleck year 1 in the EPL. I always really liked the look of him. Big, strong, great engine, good range of passing and a bit of a goal threat.

Like a younger Broonie with more (some!) footballing ability. I think Lundstram will be a mainstay in the team.

I agree with a lot of what has been said on Simpson. Good build, quick enough, decent passing but terribly indecisive and for me that's not something you can coach out.

That's just the makeup of the guy imo, he's got mistakes in him and he regularly made stupid decisions luckily not costly ones but he should have been punished more than he was so he has to give us something different coming forward.

Lundstram has to earn his place, he certainly doesnt come in as a guaranteed starter. From what i've seen of him he's less of an enforcer in midfield like Brown and more box to box. Arfield style.

Agree Simpson has mistakes in him, but I think some those slip ups came down to sharpness and playing in a new team and system. Would rather Katic gets game time anyway, can’t be good coming back from a serious injury to only be backup.

Lundstram was backup in the Championship for Sheffield, and was definitely not as much of a standout as Fleck although he did have a very good season. He used to captain England’s youth sides coming through at Everton too so he’s definitely got pedigree and think he’ll be a very good signing, just not convinced with some of the hype.

The thing with Simpson is he has been signed on the basis of the player they feel he can be moulded in to rather than who he is right now.

I wouldn't disagree with anyone that he has looked a bit ropey but that was the whole point in pushing to get him in for Jan rather than summer. He's young for a centre back, left sided and physically has all the attributes. If they can work on the technical side he could become a very good centre back.

Can I also add that I think Scott Wright is going to be some player for us - I really do.

Saw enough from him last season to see a great talent. I hope he continues to progress in a similar vein this season.
