old guard. At the moment I doubt you would get a bag of rice for any of Winks, Doherty, CCV, Sissoko, Davies, Sessignon, Jack Clarke etc. All need moving on, but the question is how do you get rid of them? No club is coming in for them as it stands, and is it any wonder, they are simply very poor players, and even Championship sides I doubt will touch them.
They have all been given plenty of game time to prove their worth, and none of them ever come up with the goods. Some of them have been hanging around the squad for half a dozen years now, and whenever they are thrown in, the end result is always the same, defeat and very poor performances.
If these are the kind of players Spurs are relying on the the cup competitions, then it is obvious Spurs won`t be winning a cup this season. At least last season Spurs had the likes of Vinnie, Bale, Dele, Toby to call on in the type of game Spurs played yesterday, now three of those have gone, Dele has been promoted back to the 1st XI, and the cup teams are now going to be littered with untried youngsters playing alongside all the dross. Not going to be winning many, if any games, as last night proved.
Only chance really in the cup competitions is some of the first XI will have to be integrated with some of the youngsters to navigate a way through games. One of Son or Kane have to play for firepower, one of PEH or Skipp have to play in midfield, and a couple of the defenders will also have to be called on.
This would be my cup team
Gollini
Tanganga
Rodon
Dier
Regulion
Skipp
Dele/Lo Celso
Bergwijn
Scarlett
Bryan Gil
Son/Kane
A few first teamers, and plenty of young players, who should be able to play more than one game a week. You could then swap Dier for either Sanchez or Romero, Skipp for PEH and Moura for any of the forwards, as and when required. That way you keep the players reasonably fresh, but put out teams capable of beating most lower level teams. You basically need a hard core of 18/19 players to navigate your way through the season. Forget about the likes of Winks, CCV, Doherty and Davies, simply more of a hinderance then a help. Move them all on, even if you give them away.

Am I the only one in thinking that the sooner we go out of this ridiculous Europa conference league, the better...
Pointless tournament... it’s blatantly obvious that some of our squad players are useless...
Last nights defeat will just highlight the need for better quality players to be signed, so that’s a good thing...
We must have more deadwood than any other club, surely?
I can name at least 7 or 8... we all know who they are..,
Plus why have we still only got just the one centre forward, with only 11 days in the transfer window left...
Also blatantly obvious that Kane isn’t going to be sold this year...but we still need a partner/back up for him...
Especially with cup games coming up...with if Kane gets another injury?!!!

He might not have wanted to leave to go to Everton though. He could move to somebody like Palace for example, the attractive prospect there is that he wouldn't have to relocate (or relocate very far) because it's on the other side of London essentially to Spurs.
There are a variety of factors as to why somebody wouldn't want to move clubs. Sometimes that's just the issue with players at this stage. Ultimately it would take another season or two to move somebody like Winks on, but coming through the academy at Spurs and looking at the squad as it is now, he has an opportunity to play for the club he came through at on a regular-ish basis, why would he want to move?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would prefer to loan him - see if he likes the loan club and then he might be more willing to go next summer.
We all want loyalty from players so why shouldn’t they expect some back from us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Still have the same issue though, if a player doesn't want to leave the club then he probably wouldn't want a loan move away either. I think a lot of Spurs players want to attempt to right the wrongs of last season and prove they are good enough for the squad really.
The one's that will be easiest to move on will be your Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jack Clarke's for example who have come through the youth set up but want regular game time elsewhere. Winks has been in the first team squad for a fair few years now so he probably believes he's good enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think loans are different because players see them as a chance to prove themselves and get back in the team. Winks could really benefit from a year at a lower PL team and then either we sell him for a better fee or he comes back full of confidence and feeling sharp thanks to a year playing in the first team.

Exactly!
When a club hands a contract out the player has as much right to expect it to be honoured as the club, you can’t hold star players to them yet expect lesser ones to just bail when it suits.
I remember Joe Cole getting dogs abuse after we signed him on a free.

With the likes of sissoko and Aurier we just need to accept the best offer we can, we'd be able to get a good price for Winks as his English.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eddie, Spurs will get nothing for Winks as it stands, he is totally useless, and other clubs can see that as well. That is why no club has come in for him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Didn't Everton get linked with him a few weeks back?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That love Island lass and now Everton? Poor old Winksy. Getting blown out more times than a wind sock. For some reason I couldn't get on here this morning before work, I don't know if the website was down, it stopped me putting up an article about Winks anyway. I can't believe how bad he's been. I'll cut the youngsters and the new boys some slack but some players need calling out. It's unacceptable.

A player severely lacking in confidence can appear to not be trying, which to be fair may be the case with Winks.

I agree and in terms of the footballing side, it probably would be the ideal move for Winks now on the surface.
Of course there are other factors we do not know about, who knows what Nuno has said/promised and I don't doubt Winks probably feels as if he's got something to prove in the Spurs side under a new manager as well. Unless Nuno has said he's specifically not in his plans, I can't see him moving on this summer personally, not even on loan.

With all the will on the planet Winks will never get to the level we need. He's 25 but still looks about 15. He hasn't got the strength in his legs to get near anyone let alone being able to hold players up. We need more from a player in his position. It's no wonder we're looking for replacements.

Getting rid of players is incredibly difficult when they're shiiite and often overpaid.
