Derby County 0 - 0 Middlesbrough

DERBY COUNTY v MIDDLESBROUGH ........... CHAMPIONSHIP Game 4

Pride Park Stadium 21st August 2021 1500

Mmmm......hope springs eternal again - still I think it's deserved and after a much improved display on Wednesday, Derby welcome Middlesbrough to Pride Park on Saturday.

Once again the Championship is showing itself to be the most intriguing ground in the world. No-one has a 100% record and at the moment it seems that you beat an opponent by a good score than lose by a similar margin a week later.

Middlesbrough have had mixed fortunes in their three league game and the game sees the return of pantomime villain Colin. I actually think he's quite personable - and the more abuse you give him, the more he thrives.

Derby look set to start with the Huddersfield side. Both O'Ebesole and Tom have been ruled out with Curtis set to continue as the captain.

Or will they?

One question before I leave you to your erudite and thoughtful insights; I'm in Bristol atm and the whole wharf side is swamped with Swansea fans for the Bristol City game at 1945. It's carnage. How an earth can they allow a 7.45pm KO on Friday night for this flashpointy and volatile game? I mean ffs every Rams/Dog game has always had to KO early on Saturday?

Team news:
Roos, Byrne, Jagielka, Davies ©, Forsyth, Shinnie, Bird, Jozwiak, Morrison, Sibley, Baldock.

Subs: Allsop, Buchanan, Williams, Stearman, Hutchinson, Watson, Stretton.

Warnock has come out this morning saying the ref had a good game.

Also reckoned that Jagielka should have had a red card. But hey ho that's Colin for you...

Bless xx
If he says that the ref had a good game, presumably he thinks that they did quite well out of his decisions.
So if he also thinks that Jag should have been sent off, he must think that a couple of his chaps should also have gone. Stands to reason

I was played in a game where Warnock was the ref and he would do a job in the EFL.
Looking back over the last 6 years I reckon we’d be in a better position if he’d been given the Derby job. Ahead of Clement, Pearson, Cocu for start

We'd be in a damn site better position if we'd kept Nigel Clough, even though his caution used to annoy me sometimes.

I can't stand Colin and his tactics and I'm glad he's never been our manager, although as you say Griff, he is successful.

I don’t like Warnock as a manager but personally he’s a decent bloke.
If we’d appointed Wilder in 2009, 2015 and 2016 we’d be in a better position

Another of Rooney's targets has joined a different club. It was very unlikely we'd see James Garner in a Derby shirt, he's signed for another season with Forest, no doubt we'll be seeing him come the weekend.

(I'd prefer he'd play no part if that can be arranged Forest fans.)

the contrast in the last 2 league fixtures, versus the 2 before is stark.

we've gone from looking a cowardly, rudderless, and utterly clueless team that was destined for league 2, unable to create anything, scared to make a mistake, and prone to panic with no way to settle once that set in, to a genuine mid-table championship team.

in the last 2 fixtures we've looked well organized, determined, a strong team unit, resilient, and mentally strong. we might not have scored against Boro, but it was the complete opposite over our previous draw, and a much more positive performance.

I don't know how we can see 2 such completely different teams in the space of 4 matches, but the first 2 matches were nightmarish, while the most recent 2 make me feel like we have a real team, albeit one on a shoestring budget that might be gone by Jan

It's simple really......Jagielka has made the difference, proper player and should be captain.

Why would you make Jagielka captain when you have Tom Lawerance in your squad

A player doesn't need to have a title of captain to be a leader. I agree Jagielka and Davies appear far more suited to captaincy on the pitch than Lawrence but it doesn't matter too much. They can still be leaders as can Shinnie and others. A lot of the role of captain is off the pitch these days, liaising between the players and the management/ownership etc. I imagine a lot of that is required at the moment and maybe Lawrence is good at that side of things, who knows. Rooney's choices in that regard have been a bit weird - Jason Knight last season for example.

Even wierder giving the captaincy to a player on a short-term contract until January
