BRISTOL CITY v DERBY COUNTY....................……….........................Sky Bet Championship Game 21
1500 Ashton Gate, Bristol Saturday 4 December 2021
Back to Planet Earth with a bump. Against a QPR side which just had more strength in depth, we lost to gut wrenching - yet worldie - last minute goal. Wasn't Charlie Austin a d!ckhead gesticulating like that towards kids and parents in the North Stand?
Again its a case of just sucking it and seeing. The way results went against us last week have just added to the chagrin. Its all ifs and buts but we still have a football club but need to be prepared for the break up of the family as the majority of the squad get set to go their own ways in the summer.
Playing Bristol City brings another DCBC reunion in the shape of Nigel Pearson who was shown the door after a tumultuous period at Derby, where if he had continued throws up more what iferies.
Not much more to add - I'm sure that you lot can fill in the gaps. Its been a funny couple of weeks and I feel genuinely that we are just playing for pride
I won't be at Ashton Gate as I don't have any old univeristy mates down there - mine all live in Liverpool or Manchester which means it may be a long time before I see them. Enjoy the game Vidal
Team news:- Allsop, Byrne, Forsyth, Begbie , Jagielka, Bird, Lawrence (C), Davies, Ebosele, Knight, Thompson.
Not that decent refereeing etc would have made any difference to the result but I felt the officiating was dire. Fozzie's yellow was never a yellow and the pantomime reffing over a Brizzle booking was farcical in its drawn out longevity. The so-called "assistant" refs were no better. Just about every long throw from Kallas was a foul throw as his front foot was well over the line and his blatant time-wasting over drying the ball each time was obviously in need of official restraint. Was it even raining? (Could not tell from the computer screen.)
WR has explained his playing approach, including the faffing with the ball between goalie and centre-backs, basing most of it on his lack of a Martin-style CF but I suspect he would play that way whatever players may be available. (I fear for us in League 1 if he's still our manager and plays that way.) Surely he must adapt to our situation (desperate) and try to give the fans some goals by playing CKR at the very least but preferably with another striker alongside. Radically different I know but needs surely must. WR must keep the fans onside and playing as we did agin Brizzle will not ensure that.
I'd like to see CKR start but he hasn't looked too lively when he has been on the pitch recently and it's starting to feel like whatever selection Rooney makes is just rearranging the old deckchairs.

Can't disagree with any of that Vidal. Fact is to get any kind if result everyone has to be playing at 100%. Equally draws are almost as bad as defeats...

Can't disagree either but maybe some new deckchairs could help eg, Stretton and/or Plange or am I clutching at straws?

Hi Chicago...well I think you are probably clutching at straws but Rooney did imply he'd be giving Plange more game time....so we'll see. CKR who was our talisman for much of last season has not had as good a season this time round. TBH I think even without the points deduction we'd be struggling. I think most of us have acepted the inevitable now.
As an aside I looked at the League 1 table yesterday. The top 3 there are Rotherham, Wigan and Wycombe. Says it all really....very similar to Championship style of play....so anyone who thinks we'll bounce straight back is maybe in for a rude awakening. Sunderland (who are what I would call a proper football club) are now spending their 4th season in League 1. ...UTR
Right now I'm ready and willing to grasp any passing straw, twig, scrap of paper, whatever!
Re CKR, I agree that he looks far less of a threat this season but against that he has had a bad injury and not much game time since so he may yet come good. (Another passing straw?)
But I'm not going to give up until it becomes mathematically impossible to survive, partly because I don't like the idea of League 1 at all. You are right, Terry, to emphasise who its top three are right now and to look at the likes of Sunderland, Ipswich and Sheff Wed.
It also seems the vultures are circling on low thermals looking to pick up our young stars on the cheap. If most of them go we are really going to be in deep doodoo and hope will be diminished considerably.

First the EFL want to destroy us and now the FA have sent us to Coventry.

Well, now we can say we can concentrate on the Cup!
I was sad to read of Keith Loring's death, his interview from 2017 was played on Radio Derby this evening and it certainly portrays him as a very lovely chap. ( A great listen)
It's this type of quality that we've lacked in the boardroom.
