Leeds Utd v West Ham Matchday Thread

Welcome to the FA Cup Matchday Thread............and the first of 2 away trips down south for the Travelling Faithful

Venue...London Stadium...Date...9th Jan...Kick Off...1400hrs

Team News
Leeds United
Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper are expected to be out until March, while Rodrigo Moreno, Pascal Struijk, Charlie Cresswell and Jamie Shackleton are also long-term absentees.

Patrick Bamford is nearing a return from his latest injury, although he may not be risked from the start in this cup game given his struggles so far this season.

Tyler Roberts and Joe Gelhardt have joined the injury list recently too, leaving Bielsa without as many as 10 first-team players for this match.

Diego Llorente is available for this game, although he will miss next weekend's trip back to the London Stadium due to suspension, having picked up five yellow cards in the Premier League.

West Ham
Michail Antonio will be pushing for a start fresh from signing a contract extension at the club, but his injury record could see Moyes err on the side of caution for cup games.

The hosts will be without Said Benrahma, who has joined up with Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, while centre-back duo Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna remain sidelined.

Pablo Fornals and Aaron Cresswell are expected to miss out too, but there could be starting opportunities for fringe players such Alphonse Areola, Ryan Fredericks and Andriy Yarmolenko.

Opta fact
Leeds have lost each of their last five FA Cup matches, going out at this stage of the competition in each of the last four campaigns. It's their longest losing streak in the FA Cup since a run of seven between 1955 and 1961.

West Ham United possible starting lineup:
Areola; Fredericks, Dawson, Diop, Johnson; Kral, Noble; Yarmolenko, Vlasic, Masuaku; Bowen

Leeds United possible starting lineup:
Meslier; Drameh, Ayling, Llorente, Firpo; Forshaw, Dallas; Summerville, Klich, James; Greenwood

Bit bare bones for this thread but best I can do just now
The first FA Cup meeting between these two sides since 1930 is all set up to be a cracker, I'm expecting a few goals in this game with it finishing 2-3 Raph getting 2 assists and Paddy comeback Hat Trick

Over to You.....................Predictions etc.....................................

Come Onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds!!!

Ref was poor and overall we did well, but we were toothless in attack and despite some really poor reffing we didn't really do enough to warrant the win
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agreed. But we certainly didn't deserve a 2-0 defeat
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was 1-0 really

Only proper goal was the one in injury time and they only scored that because we were pushing forward to trying to rule out their first half gift from the officials.

Not embarrassed by the result but very embarrassed by the way the officials ran the game.

Definite offside.
Handball and penalty.
Players not getting touched and winning free kicks - even when tripping themselves up ffs.

But as a Leeds supporter since 1960 it’s something I’ve had to get used to.

Nothing wrong with officials
Goal decision correct by Laws of game
No handball against hjelde - correct decision
The leeds shot it hit him at T-shirt level - correct decision

Granted there was the odd decision wrong but all key decisions spot on and the officials played no part in the result of the game
One manager took the game seriously
One didnt
Best side won

First goal should have been disallowed but overall we did not threaten their goal at all. I thought the young lads did well but they were up against a well drilled unit and PL quality players all over the pitch.
Depending on who we have fit next Sunday we could give them more of a game.

Did anyone expect half our youth team to beat West Ham?

Into what matters now, prem league
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Funny that as most of todays players will be playing in the league games. We barely laid a glove on a below par West Ham.

Once again, no decisions go our way. I hope the lads feel aggrieved at the decisions and it gives them some fire in their belly for next week’s game! The lads played well, I thought, considering some of the youngsters were making their debuts. We just need that clinical touch in front of goal!

I’ve been disappointed with Raphinha last few games.

Nope. Read my thread on the West Ham goal.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Your thread is incorrect Hjelde's touch doesn't count as a deliberate pass back. VAR gave it because the deemed Bowen not to be interfering with play. Which is nonsense as he challenged the keeper.
