Blades v Dogs - Match Thread

Getting this one in super early as I have a busy week and i’m out Friday day / night on an all day session 🍺 🍺 🍺

As many of you may remember I lost my Mum to cancer in 2016, and whilst I was a great son in my 30s, I was somewhat unreliable and lots of plans with her went out the window before then.

I do remember I took her to a pre-season friendly at Sheffield United where we drew 1-1 I think?

This wasn’t long after her partner died of brain cancer and i remember visiting him in the hospice the season they got relegated. I’d go visit him and make up Sheffield United results and make out they weren’t going to get relegated. Not long before he passed I remember him saying do you think we’ll stay up and I said “no Paul, you got relegated weeks ago". I’d never seen him laugh so much.

A few years before I went with Paul and i think we won 1-0. That was the beginning of me moving to Oz. I missed my ride home, got hammered, and ended up getting wasted at some girls house I met on the train. Next morning at work I had to chair a meeting and was so battered I forgot most of the peoples names.

I got transferred to another office, changed careers and luckily that was on the skills list a few years later, which allowed me to emigrate here.

Life has a funny way of working itself out, just like this match thread...

The point of the story?! My Mum and I are unbeaten at Brammal Lane!!! And...I think we’ll continue that run in spirit, despite the stats below!!

Over the last ten league games we are:

*Form Table: 7th v 3rd
*GF 13 GA 8 v GF 15 GA 4
*1.7 PPG v 2.1 PPG

Over the last six:

*Forest are W3 D1 L2 Away - GF 8 GA 5
*S.United are W5 D1 L0 @ Home - GF 11 GA 0

This game is a tall order. They haven’t conceded a goal at home since the 30th October!! That was a 1-0 loss to Blackpool, who we are playing on my Mum’s anniversary.

So, for no other reason than superstition...I’m going for a 1-0’win to Forest!

COYR!!!

Having lived in North Notts the last 15 years I have a little soft spot for forest...also being in my early fifties as a kid forest were the best team in the land!..I watched you win the European Cup...so if we don't win promotion I hope forest do

A bit harsh there cowshed, but know where your coming from. Personally doesn’t really matter who wins on Monday as the Scousers third team will beat either of us. Let’s hope Monday is entertaining, and may the best team progress. Like you I’m looking forward to the game, but not really that bothered. I’d take a defeat on Monday and qualify for the play offs than a win and miss the play offs, which I’d like to say are absolutely wide open.

I can't remember when we had such a run in the FA cup at home.

Beat the Udders, then the Scousers (pigs might fly), then it’s off to Wembley, guess we can all dream.

Maybe it's an inconvenience for both teams at this stage of the season

Totally agree with that, don’t think either team will be at full strength on Monday, love the FA Cup, but as the saying goes ‘league is your bread and butter’.

TBH, I'd have taken a point before the game. But after the way we dominated the game, I've come away a bit disappointed with one point, we deserved all three.

Best way of looking at it is, we denied them 2 points!

Hats off to you guys. You played really well gave us the fright of our lives and if I’m honest neither team was better than the other over the 2 legs just the lottery if penalties. Best of luck for next season
