Chelsea in turmoil

Not being funny, but why has it taken a war to make government realise that allowing people like this to act with impunity was wrong.

WhAtI’m agreeing with him and you are still upset?

Ha, I'd say Elsbels is just spoiling for an argument.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Got better things to do with my time. I think if he really did agree it shouldn't be on the basis of, if you think we are bad look at these guys.

We will investigate the sheikh's when they become cosier with China or Russia than with the USA.

Unfortunately that is the true line for investigation.

Agree with the op. It’s ridiculous and wonder if Man City and even Newcastle early into their tenure will be looked at next.
It’s only okay as long as it it suits it seems
----------------------------------------------------------------------
How are you agreeing with Jonty? he is pointing out it has taken far too long for the Tories to sanction this vile man who has helped underpin this evil regime and benefitted hugely as a consequence.
You just want City and Newcastle to be pulled down with you.
Hope you and your fellow squeaky school girls aren't too upset.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

With your mention of the Tories - can I gently point out that Tony Blair was in office when Abramovich bought Chelsea?

----------------------------------------------------------------------
So what? I noticed this about Bonzo yesterday, he blamed Labour for closing down nuclear power stations and seemed to forget his party have had 12 years to do anything about it. Putin wasn't half as demented in the noughties as he appears to be now, there was scarce political reason to block the sale then.
Very strange Tory mentality to point to something in the dim and distant past as an excuse for cocking things up now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There are many things I don't like about Boris's government (his 'green' agenda for one) but I notice that it's commonplace for every mistake made by Labour governments to be quietly forgotten or glossed-over with the Tories being blamed for the legacy left to them afterwards.

Labour almost wrote-off the nuclear power industry to please their left-wing sensibilities, but left such debt in the coffers at the end of their 'reign' so it wasn't fiscally viable to reverse the path they'd set us on.

I'm not sure that the Tories would have done so anyway (they've been watered-down by Lib Dem attitudes over the years) but the option wasn't there.

Agree that Putin was a different proposition back then, but it was clear that the likes of Abramovich were Kleptocrats rather than successful businessmen. The question of whether his cash was legally obtained was there to be asked whether Putin was an angel or not.
Of course, historically there are elements of the Labour party who look up to the Russian communist party, so it wasn't likely that they'd investigate one of Putin's friends.

As far as pointing out the "dim & distant past" - 12 years isn't the distant past, especially when it comes to the forward planning of the UK's national power requirements as a new power station tends to take a decade to complete.

I just don't agree with the "let's blame the Tories for everything" sentiment when some decisions were made by Labour not that long ago.

We are in complete agreement though that it's long overdue that these crooked businessmen and crooked nations who buy football clubs should have been kicked-out of the game a long time ago.

Someone told me once that ultimately those who’ve got money will vote Tory as the best way to try and keep it, and those that haven’t got money will vote Labour to try and get given it 🤷‍♂️
If that is the basic situation then it seems that whatever follows from the Tories or Labour being in charge is really irrelevant as long as you get your first wish ?

Irrespective of your personal position …there’s probably one thing we should perhaps agree on…. Never ever trust any politician !

Politicians & leaders, at some point or other realize
they are in a position to line their own pockets.

So they do.

Ken Bates has been seen outside Stamford Bridge waving a £1 coin.

That shyster moron should have been locked up years ago for his Irish bank fraud and other shenanigans!

Money and impunity go hand in hand in any country Jonty.

Your answer bundled and sealed.

Dark rooms, social events invites for dinner, topped off verbal deals are the sad reality.

The U.K. like most first world countries, is not much less corrupt than many countries, just better at hiding it and pointing the finger

Don't believe what 'someone once told' you Salonika. My wife and I are lucky enough to have decent earnings, as do all our friends. We are a caring bunch by nature and virtually all of us are Labour voters. This Conservative government is like no other that I, as a 66-year-old, have ever seen. There are many decent Tories but those who are most influential in this government, lack the compassion that has always been a hallmark of the Labour Party. Their attitude to the Ukrainian refugees is a perfect example of that. But if you do want a simplistic definition of what both parties stand for, here's mine: While both parties naturally strive to create a strong economy that we all benefit from, the Tory party largely exists to protect the interests of the wealthy, while the Labour party exists to create a more equal society.

You could also say thay the tories exist to promote self determination and self responsibility. Whereas Labour want a bigger state and want the state to make more decisions around peoples lives. At least this was the case till the tories stole labour's cloak through covid and became a dictorial state controlling government.
