Now before you get your knickers in a twist remember this is purely accademical, i acknowledge that any chances of a deal are highly slim.
However I think we should consider Theo Walcott as an option to fill our vacancy at winger/wide forward. He is very young, british and has huge potential to improve (the textbook player fsg would like to invest in). He is likley to be linking up with glenn on the english right flank for years to come;both providing ammunition for big andy which means he could form an excellent understanding with these players.
He would be a huge asset to our team; his pace would be brilliant for unlocking teams that come to anfield and 'park the bus' and as we have seen first hand he can be lethal on the break. Now whilst his decision making and delivery have come under scrutiny (Alan Hansen), they have improved significantly this season and will only get better as time goes on; he's only 21. Walcott is actually probably a better finisher than he is crosser and has the ability to interchange positions which would be very useful in Kenny's fluid attacking moves.
His ability to run in behind pins back opposition defences which creates space in the midfeild, which could help gerrard and merieles to flourish, and this could help them to deliver the kind of barton-esque (i know) delivery from deep that we know carrol flourishes on. Walcott also brings a good work-ethic which is vital for our pressing game. He is also proved at prem and champions league level.
Now the tricky bit, actually trying to buy him
From our perspective I think his excellent stats (12 goals in 25 starts this season and quite a few assists), youth and even marketing potenial; hes on the cover of fifa 11 init, make him a perfect signing using the new transfer structure. And from there sports teams stateside, and the 35million transfer of carrol i think we can assume the owners would sanction this type of move
The arsenal directors would have no problem sanctioning the transfer if we offered good money (they seem to have no quelms with selling when the price is good, adebayor, toure etc)
For the player himself convinving would be difficult, they have the champions league, but there seems to be discontent around the club, namely the concern that they are stagnating where as it look like were on the up, and it should be remembered that we will only be 1 or 2 places below them in the league despite the disasterous reign of hodgpodg. He is also Liverpool fan. It may also be the case that we can offer him a healthy financial package, this may be reliant on shipping out deadwood mind; jovanovic 60k a week, j cole 90k amongst others spring to mind.
I think it would be very difficult to convince wegner to sell; he may have to sell to buy but probably doesent want to buy anyway, if the cash lets him hold onto fabregas and extend the deal of nasri clichy and gibbs we could be in with a slim chance.
Well thats my Michael Owen style advertising brochure on the perks of Theo Walcott, who I believe should be atleast seen as an option in our search for
a pacy and effective wide forward/ winger, he could even be the 'marquee' signing everyone seems so desperate for.

those 2 went because the time was right for them to go, both had personal problems, adebayor with everyone and toure mainly with gallas.
As much as i agree that theo would do you some good, he would for pretty much any side... and the size of the bid necessary to make arsenal even think of selling him, i think, would be beyond liverpool's resources.

Of course Wallcott would be a fantastic signing but I think there would be close to no hope. How much would we have to bid, to have it accepted? There are some many minus' in the deal. One being price. Two being would they sell him to us? Three being would he want to come to us?

Just won't happen. But we need someone with his pace desperately! That is the one area we are clearly lagging behind the teams above us and we can't replace several players with slightly faster player so instead we need two players with blistering pace to give us that extra edge.

We do need pace on either flank, but they also need to be able to cross the ball and Walcott can't!
