On Sunday Wolves will travel to Lancashire to take on Burnley.
Wolves last game was on Friday 8th April, away at Newcastle where they suffered a very disappointing 1-0 loss. Since then Burnley have played 2 games, West Ham away on Sunday 17th and Southampton at home on Thursday 21st. The first they drew 1-1 and the second they won 2-0.
League results against Burnley do not make for happy reading for Wolves having won only 1 of the last 7 meetings between the sides (L3, D3) In those 7 games Wolves scored a total of 4 goals and conceded 10. If Wolves have a bogey team it would seem that Burnley are it and despite their lowly league position it would be a brave man to wager a substantial amount that Burnley won’t get anything out of this game.
On Friday 15th Burnley FC announced that had sacked long serving manager Sean Dyche with no replacement yet announced.
Wolves starting line-up could include Raul Jimenez, Ruben Neves, Pedro Neto and Leander Dendoncker none of whom started in the game against Newcastle.
With 10 places separating the two sides in the league table each set of fans have very different hopes and aspirations. Burnley fans are praying that against all odds, the team will avoid the drop into the championship.
Many Wolves fans still believe that their team can finish in the European places.
Sadly, I think both sets of fans may be heading for disappointment.
Gem’s prediction: 1-1

U23's game ended 2-2 and they now have home field advantage in the play offs.

There seems to be a growing problem at the back also. Of the 29 goals we have conceded, 14 were conceded in the first half of the season. Since January 3rd we have conceded 15 with 5 games still to play, 3 of which are against the league's highest scorers
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Still got the best defensive record outside the top 3 though by some distance so can’t see that as a major problem. Disappointment is that on a number of occasions when we have only conceded one it’s been enough to lose

In a league table just based on games played in 2022, Wolves are 5th

The problem is goal scoring which is obvious. It is exacerbated by the fact that we play 3-5-2 with a very defensive midfield which does not support the strikers very much. Couple that with strikers who seem to be unable to hit a barn door outside of 5 yards away it is no surprise we don't score many goals, or in fact concede many.
I think Bruno has tried to change the mentality and method of play but we always seem to slip into the old ways of playing.
Depending on who goes at the end of the season we will need a defender, two midfielders and a striker who can score goals.
If Saiss, Neves and Moutinho all go then they should take Jimenez, Dendoncker, Trincao and either Marcel or Ait Nouri with them.
Bring in some fresh blood.

We'd be crazy to get rid of Ait Nouri.

Considering everyone seems to agree we don’t have a big enough squad then getting rid of 7 first team squad players doesn’t seem a good way forward to me. I’m sure we’ll bring in new players in the summer but I can’t see that stretching into double figures.
But from Boston’s list, with the exception of Ait Nouri it’s not impossible the other 7 could go. Saiss and Moutinho remain out of contract and Marcel has already agreed his move back to Brazil in the summer. Plenty of interest in Neves and Dendoncker, and rumours about Jimenez. Seems to have been decided we won’t keep Trincao.
To get to anything like more depth to the squad we will surely need to recall some of the players out on loan this season. Otherwise the transfer budget could be blown on standing still rather than improving

The budget has been blown on standing still for 3 years now. I don't really expect this summer to be much different.

The list I made was not what I wanted merely an observation of the rumours. I do take the point about Ait Nouri I would like to keep him.
It is very possible that the rest could go and I would hope we could get a return for Neves, Dendoncker and Jimenez which should be a sizeable sum.
This together with some funds from Fosun could go quite a long way if we follow Amiga's rules.

I think the summer transactions will likely revolve around whether Neves leaves or not. If he does move on, then I expect a hefty sum of around 80m. That together with Fosun's money, we can start a re-build of players Bruno wants. If he stays, then build the team around him and Fosun needs to dig deep.
I've read that MGW, Giles and Bolla may well be used to bolster the squad for next season and most likely won't be going back out on loan.
It would make sense to keep Moutinho and Dendonker, but Tricao has not done enough in my book to warrant us spending a lot of money on him.
I wouldn't say no to Traore returning either as he doesn't look like staying at Barcelona.
Bruno has to address the problem up front and if Jimenez has to be moved on, then so be it and It seems that a few on here are starting to say the same. Sentiment has to go out the window and maybe Hwang may benefit if Jimenez does leave. Who knows?
But whatever happens during the summer, it'll be interesting.
