Something else

I'm with Terry and VC; just getting heartily sick of looking and hoping for some positive and concrete news and instead being fed the same old "we are in constant dialogue" etc, etc.

So I hope I will be forgiven for indulging in some nostalgia, actually occasioned by UT's kind postings recommending You Tube videos of Derbys County cricket.

Before emigrating I had been a season ticket holder and regularly travelled to Chesterfield, Ilkeston etc for County Championship games and Benson and Hedges ties and so on. I actually much preferred the good old days when the ground in Derby had lousy facilities but no fencing so you were free to wander at will and sit where you liked. Those were the days of Jackson, Gladwin, Rhodes - all brilliant players who stood no or little chance of Test cricket as Derbyshire were not Surrey or Middlesex. Then I later loved to watch the likes of Bob Taylor, one of the greatest wicket keepers ever, Hendrick, Ward, Eddie Barlow, Peter Kirsten and the great Michael Holding although he was somewhat past his prime then. Devon Malcolm was lightening quick though a little erratic but he did get to play a few tests. I seem to remember him skittling (I think) South Africa single handed.

Things started to change with the building of the new pavilion which was, I have to say, a wonderful addition but then fencing was put up and that incredibly friendly and relaxed atmosphere seemed to disappear. But I completely understood the need for change as Derbyshire were making no money and it made absolute sense to make sure that all spectators paid and then sat in the right places.

Since emigrating I lost interest and Derbyshire seemed to go into horrible decline. I completely lost touch with all the new formats and had no idea of personnel til encouraged by UT to watch the You Tube videos. Well, can we dare to hope that things are on the up now? On the evidence of those videos we now seem to have some real talent again and presumably a good coach/manager.

I hope UT and some others will chip in with their thoughts - a good opportunity to forget DCFC for a few hours!

I won't forget in a hurry the wonderful efforts of the players last season. Under the most trying of circumstances I thought they were heroic to a man and that won't be tainted by what they choose to do from now on, for me at least.

Are we all piling down to vidal's gaff for pre-match drinks and canapés on 16th August?

Since Brexit and Covid he can't get the Eastern European staff to serve up his champagne.

I'm not fussy, quite happy to pour my own.

I shall be having my usual game of a golf on a Tuesday afternoon before ambling down to Fortress Greenhous. I've actually got Vidal Towers on the market at the moment, just looking for someone who can afford it.

Easy game to get to for me, but I'm not sure I'll get a ticket with less than 10,000 capacity?

If it comes to it Scouse I could get you a ticket amongst the locals. You might want to start practising your regional dialect which I could also help you with so that you don't draw attention to yourself.

Thanks vidal.

To be honest getting tickets for a lot of away games in L3 is going to be tricky to say the least.
