Apparently, Spurs cannot agree a fee with Boro and are prepared to walk away.
With Levy being detailed to get this deal done, why is this not a surprise?
My old boss was a great negotiator, he had the balls to ask for anything, even when you thought it was totally unreasonable or impossible and more often or not he'd get it. But the flip side was that these sort of people have a ultra competitive mindset and will sometimes scupper or mess up a deal on the basis of a principle. I remember one land deal where I had agreed the heads of terms and in giving his oversight before signing off, he recommended that we should slightly adjust the boundary between the sale land and the retained land. It was a tiny adjustment that made no difference to anything but in his eyes it was a gain, and he simply wouldnt budge on it.....then the embarrassing situation for me to go back to the buyer and say "you know we agreed terms, well we havent". It eff'd them off royally and they could not understand the merits of what we were asking for. Deal went through in the end but it turned a good negotiation into something unnecessarily difficult.
I see Levy in this way. Stubborn, petty and inflexible and fecking frustrating to deal with, albeit capable of striking some great deals.
Not sure how far apart Spurs & Boro are. If its £15m vs £20m then i can understand why we might view £20m to be very top end after 1 decent season. We cannot ignore that £5m is a lot of money...we could probably all retire on that right now, but surely there is middle ground to be had, in the interests of getting teh deal over the line.
We seem to be one of the few interested in the lad and maybe Levy is playing his favourite waiting game, which can work.
It just has such a familiar ring to it though, its a bit depressing. I fear we'll see him ripping it up for WHU or someone next season and being worth double his current value.

United are an awful team ….I find it amusing and satisfying as growing up they were as good on the field as on it
