Serge Gnarby

What are we waiting for. Just put the bid in!

As usual it takes a century for us to negotiate a deal and before you know it a rival club has come along and outbid us..

Being in our position we should be jumping at the likes of Gnarby who would potentially be available.
What's the chances Liverpool or City will now go in for him.

I don't know why we ditthy about so much. Maybe Edu needs approval from the owners each time a bid is put in?

1. What is so difficult to understand about a player coming in to support / compete with / understudy Saka?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Because Gnabry will be sitting on the bench and NOT playing. Don't you get that? Its interesting you point to him replacing Pepe. How many times did Pepe start last season? Why do you think he wants to leave?

So you want to me believe that Gnabry, a starting International for Germany and playing for Bayern Munich in the Champions League will come to Arsenal to 'compete' with Saka.

And you call me stupid for not accepting that?

I promise you if Gnabry comes to Arsenal, Saka will move to Man City before he signs an extension to his contract.

Do you want me to explain 'hindrance'? Young Players need to play football to develop. Or why do you think they go out on loan. Both ESR and Martinelli are so good that they are already producing goals and assists for Arsenal. Which is Arteta did not send them out on loan. How will they develop if they are sitting on the bench?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So, again, why did we go in for Raphinha? But since you could arguably counter that by saying we didn't get him, let me ask this: with Saliba coming in, who's going to be hindered? Better yet, who's leaving? Because, you know, you can't have more than one established player per position, right?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I explained above why I think we are after Raphinha and may still get him.

But to do it again.

Raphinha in my opinion, and obviously Barca/Chelsea as well is a very unique player. He plays in the role that Iniesta used to do for Barca. There are very few players in the world who can do that wide/central/creative roles.

But I believe that it would eventually force Martinelli or ESR out. I said that above. Maybe (and I am speculating) that Arteta thinks ESR can play deeper in Odegaards or Vieira's position. And maybe he believes that Marti will be the 3rd striker to Jesus and Eddie. I don't know!

If Saliba develops because I do not think he will be a starter this season, Gabriel will be the one who leaves next season. Arteta's system requires the CBs to be comfortable coming into the midfield and Saliba is better at it than Gabriel. But we do not know whether Saliba will be able to handle the physical side of the prem. Why do you think Gabriel is already being linked with Juve?

Honestly I don't think its about win/lose. I try understand other people viewpoint and give my own when I think there is a deeper analysis that they are ignoring. If Maul still believes he is correct then thats alright.

Do you still believe that if you consider that Raphinha can play on either wing (so may not always affect Gabi / Emile), ESR will not likely play all games with his ongoing injury issues, there will be players rested and different line ups (all issues I countered with). The depth is necessary as is the quality to take us into top 4 and to a trophy.

You have been commenting on unsubstantiated rumours the whole afternoon. In fact the Gnabry rumour has already been denied by Arsenal.

Yes, I agree with you on that in principle. And I also believe that neither Marti nor ESR are established starters in contrast to Saka. However one reason why ESR gets injured is because he lacks stamina. And he is not going to develop that sitting on the bench. In fact I predict far fewer muscle injuries this season because of the amount he played last season. You can never rule out injuries caused by tackles etc. But if do sign Raphinha its very likely that ESR/Marti will not be starting many games, especially not the high pressure important premier league games. So I do expect it to affect their futures. How can it not? Which is why I hold the hope that maybe Arteta doesn't see either player (ESR/Marti) as wide attackers.

We aren't after him. Whether we should be is a different story...

First comment on this post, so not sure that was quite the "gotcha" you might have expected.

So with Saka being the starter we all know he is, who should back him up? Without that significant drop in ability that we've tended to see when we bring in subs off the bench? Unless you think that we have sufficient numbers / personnel?

ESR or Marti. How about Marquinhos?

However I would personally go for Gakpo if we do not sign Raphinha.

Gakpo is on par with ESR and Martinelli. He is not a threat to their playing time as much. But he is also one who can be the 3rd striker behind Jesus and Eddie.

While the post may not have been about Saka specifically, that's the leaning I had. You're mainly talking about the left (where we have those two players) and your solution to my question about supporting Saka is a player who has played predominantly on the left and would be a fourth striker (possibly fifth) after G Jesus, Nketiah, Martinelli and possibly Balogun?

Good talk.

Sure, depends on what you are looking for. If you want a left footer cutting in then we have signed Vieira? Saka is also a left footer cutting in.

I think its all about options:

so if its 4-1-4-1 mix and match.

and 4-2-3-1 then if we get Tielemans or Milinkovic-Savic partnering Partey and you can play Vieira wide right.

Now this is a line of discussion I can get involved with. Except for the fact that I now have things to do!
