James Garner will return to training tomorrow so hopefully he'll be available to play some part of Tuesday's game against Palace.
The manager is said to be keen to have a good look at him before making a decision about his immediate future.
I'm torn between keeping him and loaning him as on the one hand it would be great for everybody concerned if he could play a full season of Premier League football but he's the only midfielder with competitive first team experience we have who knows how to sit and screen a defence given he spent a large chunk of his youth playing that role so he might actually be the most suitable player to pair De Jong with (if he signs) if Garner shows himself capable of playing at this level. Then again that might not be the kind of role Ten Hag has in mind for him.
Also while on the subject of the midfield, Zidane Iqbal and Charlie Savage haven't done themselves any harm on tour so far. They've shown a knack for creating time and space for themselves in and out of possession and more willingness to receive the ball. Although it's probably not saying a lot given it's pre-season but we've looked more assured and a bit less frantic in midfield when they've played. They're having the kind of pre-season I was hoping Hannibal and Garner would have.
It'll be interesting to see who'll be in contention for our cup squads this season. Maybe there'll be an even bigger part to play for one or two.
Garner's Return To Training

You can't loan two players from the same club and Henderson is there already.

I'm sure we won't be short of offers from lower end Premier League clubs for Garner if we do decide to loan him out again.

Eh yo! How is it Man Utd’s last 2 games are on a Sat and Sun. July 30th - July 31st.
What kind of a madness is that? What am I missing here?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The first one was already scheduled as part of the tour, then the second one 24 hours later was added as a bit of a money spinner to get people in to see ETH in his first home game. I guess the likes of Martinez and Eriksen who won’t be on the tour will get to play at least.
Assuming the squad will be split for both games so everyone gets close to a 90 minute or at least 65/70+ in them.

The only way Forest could have Henderson and Garner on loan is if one of the loans included an obligation to buy.

Hmm… seems a bit risky still..
don’t need unnecessary foolishness to occur just before a big game.
Anyone ever heard of anything scheduled like that before?

Think teams play friendlies in 2 places at once or consecutive days quite often tbf with a split squad.

I think Garber should go back to Middlesbrough for the season. Yes, he could be good for us this season as a squad player, but will he move the needle with regards to our finishing position? Likely not. But, if he goes out and is a starter for Middlesbrough in the PL it could have a significant impact on his development and therefore the chance of him becoming a top player for us in the future.
I think Iqbal should stay, his quality and position mean he can have a impact. Savage on the other hand could do with a loan in the Championship similar to Garner. The role he plays is a bit more physical and box to box, he is less likely to get game time at United and will see more benefit of a loan for a year or two.

Midlesborough?

I don't think that they can take him on loan as they already have Hendo.

Ok split squad sure, makes sense.
All I keep thinking is the same players doing most of the legwork..
