Here’s one for the purists - no colour, no italics, no HTML - just an abbreviated version of the infamous DCFC Match Thread. Being created on a phone in a place far away…..

Anyway, it’s the thought what counts.

Derby go into this game on the back of a morale boosting win on the opening day. PP was buzzing and it looks that the team, whilst still gelling, has plenty more to give.

Another loan has come in, in the shape of Dobbin from Everton. McGoldrick is still out as another who name escapes me. It was Shinnie’s birthday yesterday- would be nice to see him back.

Anyway, beaches call. Keep this going. I will have intermittent Wi-fi - like Pride Park and will appreciate updates. Has everyone done Banno’s predictors?

First XI: Wildsmith, Hourihane, Cashin, Barkhuizen, Bird, Collins, Mendez-Laing, Smith, Roberts, Davies (C), Knight.

Subs: Loach, Forsyth, Thompson, Sibley, Dobbin, Stearman, Oduroh.

Strangely enough, Heb, there was a similar sounding chap in the locality yesterday. Massively under-used, came off the bench in the 8th minute of additional time.

Out of curiosity I just had a look at that game. What a strange time to make your three substitutions, 92nd, 97th and 98th minute.

Think they were hanging on desperately, Desi

PS not sure I like this 5 sub business

Btw, Terry, I've not watched the game, and I realise that there were 2 very different halves, but I'm not sure if your 'best football in a long time' and ''overall they were all pretty poor' comments really stack up ?

The first half was the best performance I’ve seen Derby put in for a long time, if only!

I agree with Terry about the first half. Some of our football was so good that I wondered if I was seeing things. Our fitness levels looked great too and I did wonder if we would drop a gear second half but then remembered the new substitution numbers which would be available. There was only one thing wrong with that first half. We should certainly have scored three and if Charlton backsides had not fortuitously got in the way of some efforts there could have been even more. Also I lost count of the lucky bounces they had in their own penalty area.

I also agree that there was some sloppy play in the second half but would not go so far as to say it was a constant. Maybe Knight's missed header was the best chance of them all but we were never destined to score.

Whether the TV did him no justice I don't know but Sibley seemed to have little effect this time. A frustrating player but I'm sure he will get 90 mins agin Mansfield.

I do agree with UT. Someone will get a tanking ere long and we will be o'reet.

PS I hate this 5 sub availability for all the reasons shown on Saturday. Near the end, C were under the cosh but were able to disrupt our momentum through use of subs. All perfectly legal and no doubt we could do the same when needed but for supporters it's a real pain.

Don't worry about a defeat. Players need to learn together how to win games. If they are creating chances then that will come.

The best season I can remember was 1968/9 where we would have achieved over 100 points by extrapolating for 3 points a win and 46 games. That season we started the season with 3 draws and 2 defeats. We only lost 3 more league games all season (one to Charlton).

Yes, I would be worried if we were not creating chances. That has not been a problem so far and it's really good to see that we are getting bodies into the final third which only happened rarely last season, if I remember rightly.
