It's simple really.

OK, let's all just accept that the defence is OK, even if the FB situation is a little shaky.

Let's accept that we need another midfielder.

Let's accept that we have a promising group of attacking players.

And, of course, let's accept that we need at least one more player who can put the ball in the back of the net.

Right, that's the diagnosis completed, what about the cure.

1. The recruitment team need to identify the right player or players.

2. Those players need to want to come to the club.

3. The funds need to be made available.

And the procedure:

1. I would be very surprised if Bruno et al did not have a few players in mind, players that could just be slotted into the team.

2. I believe we still have a big enough profile that would attract good strikers, if they were offered the right contract.

3. Errr! Is this where it all falls apart?

I told you it was simple!

Nunes being reported on the BBC now. Still need to agree personal terms though.

Nunes is travelling to England today evidently. Certainly the Portugese press are reporting this as a done deal.

Still need a decent investment in a striker, and Bruno has said he expected 3 or 4 more signings this window and I guess Nunes would be the first of those.

Does look like a sizeable and unexpected investment from Fosun is happening. Although I guess we don't know for sure yet whether some or all of that cost will be funded by player sales.

Yes I think so, I expect MGW will be sold and maybe others.

A proven striker on loan - I agree with Tam-with no more sales would be ideal, then review the striker situation later after seeing how Raul does and Silva,
we are taking a bit of a risk with a few young and relatively inexperienced players who we assume will do great eg Collins but there are experienced ones around too, not so much at CB with Saiss and Coady gone , be very interesting to see how Killman and Collins get on against some of the best strikers in the world , and to see if we manage to score more of course

As far as I'm concerned, if we can add a player who can get 15+ goals, and if we sell no-one (with the possible exception of Traore) then this has, against all expectations, been an excellent window.

The downside is that mendes appears to be brokering the sale of Pedro Neto. Manu and Arsenal said to be interested.

I might be wrong but I'm slightly struggling to see the Neto stuff being legit interest - he's not played much since his serious injury nearly eighteen months ago and hasn't demonstrated yet that he can hit his earlier form again. For the likes or arsenal and utd it would be a gamble, and for Wolves it would be stupid because we'll get nowhere near as much for him as we would after he's shown he can get back to his best.

I can totally see utd panicking and coming in late for Neves though.

I also don't understand even a little bit why utd aren't in for Nunes.

With guedes, nunes and Ramos grasshoppers are going to have a heck of a team

Well, well, who'd have thought it?

Going back to the medical scenario in the article header, the treatment is progressing well, but one more procedure is still required. A final trip to the consultant should do the trick.
