Sir Bobby
1984 European Championship – failed to qualify
1986 World Cup – quarter-final
1988 European Championship – group stage
1990 World Cup – fourth place
Sven
2002 World Cup – quarter-final
2004 European Championship – quarter-final
2006 World Cup – quarter-final
Don't let your patriotism spoil your judgement.

Really? Well that's strange, I'm pretty sure it's got more to do with us having so many reasons to laugh at you

Good to see so many leicester fans taking an interest in their bigger neighbours from up the road.
Little, little leicester. Never won a proper trophy.

I will be blunt. I would not want Sven OR Steve at my club for a variety of reasons. Foxabdy I do take your point that Sven got to more tournaments etc but remember that Sir Bobby took over at the worst time for any manager (as to some degree Sven did later)
His best players were past it and the young lads weren't quite there yet. But in '86 we started to look like the real deal until the hand of maradona plus one of the all time great goals in WC history stopped us. In Italia '90 we were beaten by the germans on penalties ( It became a familiar theme if you remember. Anyone fancy a pizza?)
Sven basically allowed the players to do what they like and the whole business became a media circus. english football became more famous for it's WAGS than it's football.
Steve MacLaren? Well, the wally with the brolly is an image he will never shake but I think his basic problem was he was too much like Sven in that he treated the players as buddies.
Since the England job Sven has lurched from one media circus to another most noyably with Notts County while Steve went abroad and to be fair seems to have done fairly well there.
If Forest MUST have a former England manager at the helm then I would throw a wild card into the ring. A man who in my opinion was driven out of the England job for reasons having nothing to do with football. A man whose knowledge of the game and man management skills are unquestionable.
That man seems to have been forgotten in recent years and it's hard to know why because he's got so much to offer any club.
His name is Terry Venables.

And since Capello has become hard-line with the players, they have won......ah yes, sweet FA. Indeed, they did far worse under Capello at the last World Cup than at any time under Sven.
As for the WAGS, it was the media that created that culture, not Sven or anyone else.
