Not sure if people have been following the progress of the Artemis I this week but it’s part of the next step in space exploration. In a couple of years the next step is to take people back to the Moon and then within 15-20 years we’ll have our first people on Mars.
I know some will say that it’s a waste of money and there are plenty of problems back on earth that need sorting but for me I think it will represent a huge step forward for humanity if we can send someone to Mars. Might put all of the petty squabbles into perspective. Anyone else looking forward to the day someone walks on Mars? (I’ll pre-empt Rosso as I’m sure that woke beatnik hippy is anti-space travel).
Going to Mars

The conversation is will Elon Musk beat NASA to Mars. It seems more likely.

Aren't they effectively working together on it?

Has anyone else been to NASA in Clear Lake
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Been to Kennedy Space center
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Saw a small rocket launch while we were in Florida too
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is there much to it, I mean apart from the launch pad and launch control building
Must still be pretty cool to visit though.

This is pretty sad I admit but one of my main ambitions in life is to be alive when first contact is made.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Contact with who?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Intelligent alien life, presumably. Though that's more of an 'if' than a 'when'.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Indeed, it took me by surprise, so was intrigued.
I also think that one of the most common misconceptions on this subject is that we'd be likely to come across a lifeform that could be communicated with in some way.
Not that I know anything about it at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, it was aliens I meant.
I also do know we're far more likely to find a bacteria on another planet than have a discussion with ET but since I was a kid I've had a fascination with alien ships coming down and talking with us.
I have read that all the dodgy sightings, poor footage, alien films etc are part of a plan to desensitise us for such an event!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The most amazing thing about alien life is also one of the saddest. Such is the size of the universe, there will be intelligent life out there; but, given that size, we will probably never find it.
I also remember being fascinated by the Arecibo message in particular when I was young.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Wow! signal fascinated me as it was just three days before I was born (and a day before Elvis died!).
I'm a geek for things like this and do keep an open mind about life forms on other planets.
