OK right now this board is becoming somewhat divided on the question of the manager which in my personal opinion is at best premature and at worst irresponsible. I asked Petrov er and Reebok Rebel this question and they've both agreed so now I'm going to throw it out there for all the other Coyle doubters/relegation fearers who seem to feel that we are doomed after seven games. I'm not going to go into the fixture list or injury list because they have been done to death.
What I'm asking for is actually simple and applies to both sides of the divide, the pro and anti Coyles, the rose tinted ' everything will be fine and we're going to glory' brigade and the totally negative 'we're doomed and will never get a point again' outfit.
Can we all, as fans of Bolton Wanderers set aside our differences and give Owen and the lads our complete support until after the Everton game? Can we stop sniping at each other until then and concentrate on being the twelfth man at the Reebok?
Now, I will add the same proviso that Petrov er and Rebel have. IF we put in another spineless display like the first half on Sunday feel free to complain because I'll be complaining about it myself. But until the Everton game is over as long as the lads are giving us their very best and we fight for everything I'm asking trotters fans NOT to come out with comments that lead to more argments and divisions. I don't want to see Coyle Out articles OR people telling those who don't feel Coyle is God that they are idiots. Leave him be for those five games to get on with his job with our full support. Then when we've had those five games we'll be in a better position to judge and then we can have a somewhat more informed and intelligent debate. I don't know or care which side of the Coyle fence everyone is on, I'm just saddened to see the childish name calling and playground antics that soured the last days of the Megson era that did so much damage to us all starting to creep back in. So please guys, can we spend the next few weeks showing we are all Bolton Fans and give the people we pay to represent us the best chance to do their jobs?
If they fail then fair enough we can start talking about replacements. If they succeed then we won't need to worry. Either way, five games, that's all I ask.
Owen Coyle: A Request

Im a OC fan but results from the semi final onwards make sorry reading....Injuries to key players and the opening fixtures have kicked the legs from under us..
OC must pull things round soonhowever no way would I call for his head. If we were to go down I would stick with him.....

TBH id agree with oneafter909, Coyle hasnt become a bad manager over night.
Everyone saying he doesnt know his best team yet etc, well in fairness he probably does know it, but with injuries etc hes trying to figure out what his best team is without his best players.
Theres no other manager we could bring in who we could expect to do better under the circumstances. and that includes if we got relelgated. If we got relegated it would be due to unfortunate circumstances and it would be something we would find our way out of in one season. Saying that, i dont think we will finish near relegation anyway, im thinking 12-13th.

Thanks all. Let me just set the record straight on one thing. I'm NOT and never will be a mod. you couldn't pay me enough for that job and frankly I'd sooner eat faeces than spend my days trying to keep a grip on things on such an enormous forum. I admire and respect the mods because they do a pretty good job under difficult circumstances but I wouldn't want to be one.
I don't think Coyle would stay if we went down so keep him or not would probably be a moot point. I honestly can't see that happening anyway. I will support Coyle personally for a lot more than the next five games but I respect the right of those who wouldn't to hold a differing opinion. All I'm asking for is unity on the board for those five games provided we can see the players and managers are giving their all to the cause and not rolling over likt they did in the first half against Chelsea.
I appreciate that my initial post was probably not clear enough and I'm sorry if it caused confusion but I know that there are many like me on both sides of the debate who are tired of trying to wade through the personal insults flying back and forth in an attempt to follow what can and should be an intelligent discussion. It's by no means as bad as it was towards the end of the megson era but before it gets there I thought I'd post this in an attempt to prevent that.
Of course people are going to have different opinions and that's healthy especially on a forum that's been specifically designed to give us a place to vent our frustrations or announce our joy at current events. All I'm asking is that we don't jump to judgement on Owen and the lads until the picture's a bit clearer and that we refrain from descending into childish spats when so many trotters are capable of posting well thought out and reasoned comments. There will always be a small group who want to act like kids in the playground with their 'I'm right.' 'Are not. am. are not.' rows but what I hope we can avoid is seeing that spread across the board as it did two years ago. I think it's worth remembering too that Owen has still only had one full season here and that for most of it we were in the top half, progressing superbly in the cup and within a sniff of European football. Yes we've tumbled quite a bit but that isn't all or even mostly Owen's fault in my view. However it is his job to arrest that slide and with this break he has the perfect opportunity to sit back, look at what we have left after those awful injuries and decide how best to utilise what is still on paper at least a decent enough mid table squad. We'd all like more than that but I think it would be unrealistic to expect it and right now what I want is just to see us climb out of that bottom three and then kick on. I believe Owen can do it but I also believe that he and the players need all of us to be behind them at least for now.

Out of interest, what with Megson's name being mentionged, I'm curious what kind of reception you guys will give him next season. Should we expect fireworks?

Considering it would only be in the League Cup, you can expect our reserves and a heavy defeat. .

Interesting point of view from one or two who would want to keep OC even if he took us down. IMO, if we're in the same position (or similar) come Xmas, he'll be replaced anyway..the same way Megson was before him.

First you are right people underestimate the impact of relegation. Bolton cannot afford to be relegated and Bolton come first whoever the manager is. It amazes me how some would refuse to say relegating a premier league club with 12 years establishment not be a failure. In regards to his team choice he clearly does not know it. What injuries have we got that coyle did not know of preseason. Bar the suspensions of klasnic and wheater the others have been dropped based on performance and nothing else. The chopping and changing is to do with results. Half time subs worry me. It says a lot about plan a failing over and over again.
First I may do what you said and join Holden in putting my fingers in my ears and close my eyes whilst chanting Owen coyle Owen coyle. At least watching regular pastings will get easier.

Who says it isn't? it would be a failure !!!
If we had been pasted 5-1 by Wigan, I'd be livid but we haven't, all teams that have world class players in them ...

What? no one at our club think the situation is good but rather than moaning and groaning, some like to get back the team (even on this forum), offer realistic, constructive criticism rather than making up scenarios were we will sack our manager !!!!!

Can I just chip in here and thank all those who've commented intelligently so far. one or two wums from other teams but that's to be expected. I won't hit delete comment simply because I think it's wrong to censor and if someone wants to be petty in public then let them do it because they only make themselves look small.
I honestly prefer this kind of honest argument backed with reason rather than some of the slating on both sides that has gone on recently and |I hope every other trotter does too. If I could give FOTG, Moses, Campo and the rest of you five stars for comments I would. Thanks
