Whatever happened to that mantra, and the famous stiff upper lip?
Lockdowns and cancelling events left right and centre.
The brits have lost their grit.
Hard times ahead.
Keep Calm and Carry On

Don’t talk daft. The majority of nations on the planet have an elected president.
UK is stuck in the 19th century.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
you've seen the fackin state of these countries have you....Putin Biden...Trump
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fackin Bojo has been running your country for years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fortunately he's not been head of state, which is exactly why I'm thankful for the monarchy.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So what did the queen do to help that situation?
I think its called a rubber stamp.

Be the figurehead and representative of our country, something she did with far more decorum, commanding infinitely more respect than any politician can.

The happiest nations in the world have constitutional monarchies.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Two of this year’s top three (Finland and Iceland) are parliamentary republics, not monarchies.
I think a better argument would be that the happiest nations in the world are progressive, liberal, relatively egalitarian democracies with strong social welfare and well-funded health systems.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ha! I knew I should've checked the list. And while Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands are all up there making my point that is not as simple as 'monarchy=bad' you're certainly right that it's not the only reason those countries do so well in those polls.
It's funny, cos my comment came from a book I read about the Danes a while back, written by an expat living there. He remarked how surprised he was that they always do so well in the happiness scores because they're remarkably average. A lot of it, he concluded, was down to a strong sense of identity and common purpose. That's something that having a figurehead like Queen Elizabeth, who stuck around forever being generally a decent influence, gave all of us. Love her or hate her, she was our leader in forever, known and widely revered across the world. It's hard to quantify but certainly is important and has value. IMO.

Oh, do go boil your head, you ignorant sycophant.
I’ve managed to create my own sense of identity, thank you very much. And I believe, as a so-called “leftie”, that I probably have my own a well developed sense of common purpose.
She “gave” me nothing of the sort, you oaf.

I have no idea why that winds you up so much you felt the need to make it personal but ok, you disagree. That's fine

You only have to watch 21st Century tv this morning to realise that the UK is still stuck in Ruritania.
