Our priorities now

Now that we've said goodbye to Champions League progress, our priority has to be winning back the league from Celtic.

This is going to be hard and we have to face some uncomfortable facts....they are playing better than us, have a stronger squad, with a manager who has a recognisable and consistent style of play, and they are already 4 points ahead, with much better goal difference. So,it's going to be difficult but far from impossible

1) We need a short to medium-term view of our manager. Either we take a decision now to stick with him, and back him with funds in the Jan. window. The first team needs strengthened immediately or the league is gone. Or, if he is not the one, get him out now and get the new guy installed during World Cup break so that we can strengthen in January

2) Either way the first team needs strengthened. We have had enough windows where we've added 'bodies to the squad' To win league back that approach will not be good enough this time around

3) Personally, I'd shift at least Kamara, Morelos, Kent, and Roofe in Jan. ...the most lucrative obviously is Kamara, and let's not forget we made approx. £16mill. profit from dealings in the summer

4) Immediately my priorities in Jan would be...a striker, a left-winger, and a centre-back...players immediately good enough to improve our 'first eleven'

5) Huge clear-out required in the summer also....a keeper, Helander, Jack, Davis, Arfield....probably Sands and Tillman not retained, and there are major doubts over quality of Matondo, and Wright, but we need to sort much of this out over the winter or the league will be out of sight. Plus, Celtic will not stand still in January

6) Finally, Rangers' loyal fans need to know......who identifies and buys players at Ibrox.....manager, or Sporting Director?

Bad news about these riots in Dundee last night.

Anyone know if there was much improvement done?

Surely it's the role of the Sporting Director and his team to identify the targets based on the criteria agreed for the identity of the team that Rangers want to have, with the manager ultimately getting final sign off?

And of course the manager appointed should fit in with the identity Rangers want to have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course it is but many want to lay all the blame at Wilson's door for various reasons.

Gio is 100% involved in the transfers. His title is manager not head coach
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I would assume he'll have final sign off, but he won't identify the targets, he won't negotiate with agents and he won't negotiate transfer fees.

Also it's worth pointing out that the identity of the team and the style of play should really be determined by the Sporting Director, not the coach. The coach should be appointed to fit in with the identity so that consistency is in place.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Disagree, Ivan. Of course any coach will have a leaning to style but to find a coach that 100% aligns with any club ethos and salary and availability and background and board acceptability and customer acceptability and background checks and impresses at interview - wow, it's tough to tick all the boxes.

Then you'd have to have players that fit that style, or identify and buy them and hope none get injured or turn out scheite then wonder if the coach shouldn't just play a style that fits the available players. There needs to be flex.

FWIW, I've said this before, Rangers DO seem to have a club style that involves solidity over flair, solid spine and wide players that pump balls to a big CF to heider in and win 2-0? Celtic's seems largely buy midgets that can look good on the ball and focus on the flair more than results - attack over defence and win 5-3?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I would agree with that point partly, in the days of John grieg tam forsyth, Colin stein etc.

When rangers were doing 9 in a row we had players like laudrup, gazza, Ronald de boer etc, who played exciting football.

Celtic have their share of big forwards, van hessailink, van hoyjdoonk, they spelt wrong ain't they, samara, sutton.
Mind rod wallace was excellent for rangers and mccoist wasn't a danger.
I give you cousins and hately smashed defences about including celtics but I refute the point that lots of our teams played hoof to the big forward football, we have had teams with smashing flair players in the past
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I was generalising and baiting a bit. During the English Euro ban and Celtic's banter years you could sign who you wanted and Murray did whether he needed them or not. During MON's phase, whether by design or not he built a bigger than average team and played to their strengths in the air.

I still refute that a consistent style is needed. Players are more flexible than is given credit - they play the way the gaffer wants or they don't start, simples. The players that labour under one style can shine under another. I see bear fans wet dreaming of Knutsen or Bielsa - would that become the new club style because these guys aint changing? In fact they wouldn't come in the first place if a style was imposed. End of the day board and fans don't much give two fooks if you are winning cf Walter.

Hancock suspended after signing for I'm a celebrity.

Andy Drummond, the deputy chairman of the MP's West Suffolk Conservative Association, told the PA: "I'm looking forward to him eating a kangaroo's peenis. Quote me. You can quote me on that."

Labour's shadow health minister, Andrew Gwynne said: "To be fair to Matt Hancock, I'd sooner eat wallaby @nus than be a Tory MP too."

I've still no idea why it happened and what they were rioting about. Just looked like mindless violence.
