Forest v Brentford - Match Thread

1 step forwards...1 step backwards...or 1 goal forwards and 5 goals backwards.

Another capitulation....another huge away reverse...but we are only 3 points off 15th, 5 points off 12th and 7 points from 9th.

More importantly...Arsenal are top, rested most of their players mid-week and they looked good...very good.

Last Game Overview:

We started well enough and nearly hung on until half-time. Cook losing out on pace to Martinelli...his footballing mind not quite as fast as Martinelli's footballing feet.

Second-half? Awful.

The Good: First-half.

The Bad: Second-half.

The Ugly: The effort.

Special Mention: The fans, as always.

Overall Record:

Currently we stand at W13 D9 L13

Our last season (20/21) in the same league, we took 4 points off Brentford. This and the Palace game are the points that matter.

Signings:

Colback, Niakhate, Richards and Toffolo missing.

I think Lingard will remain missing...WC is on tv for you fella. Two masterclasses to prove everyone and yourself worthy.

Your Opposition Story:

Promotion and sustainability the right way. What they have done is nothing short of remarkable.

Form:

We both have 5 points from our last 5 games. 7 points from our 6 EPL Home games, with Brentford having 3 points from their last 6 Away games.

With the right attitude, this one is winnable.

Team:

Henderson

Aurier Cook McKenna Williams

Mangala Yates Freuler

Johnson Awoniyi MGW

Kouyate and Lingard didn't offer much. With Mangala surely close to full fitness, Johnson looking good off the bench and Lodi just as bad as the rest of them...three changes incoming.

Prediction:

A 1-0 win. The City Ground is where we will make the majority of our points this season.

Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle are big stadiums for young players new to the EPL. Like rabbits in the headlights we have struggled away. Big time.

Three points here and three points against Crystal Palace and it all goes quiet.

COYRs!!!!!

Don’t actually think this is our first season in the premier league, it may be a gap of 23 years, but its definitely not our first, and won’t be our last.

I’d argue the PL is a bit different 23 years on and the way some of your fans are talking, it’s almost as if you’re seasoned veterans

It maybe different, but its still the premier league. Everything changes over time, that’s just a fact of life. Some fans may think we are seasoned veterans, but in reality we are once again novices learning our way, it may be good enough it may not, but at least as fans we’ve had the chance to sample it, some fans will go a whole lifetime without that experience, just make the most of what’s available, nothing lasts forever. One last thing, if it all goes pear shaped and we are relegated, no one can take away the winning trip to Wembley last May, that as they say was priceless.

Well said and absolutely fair play to that. Same for us Leicester fans - whatever happens to us in the future, we’ve had an incredible journey. It will end as all things do but you have to enjoy it while times are good

Good lord - this really is your first season in the premier league isn’t it? This isn’t football manager pal - new signings take time to gel, particularly if they’re coming from different divisions. It’s not as if Ayinowi is smashing it up is it? And by the way - after signing about 60 players, how you haven’t managed to think about getting a decent goal scorer is beyond me.

I’ve seen this all before. You can kid yourself that decent performances will lead to decent results. They don’t. Very simply in this division you need to be clinical in both boxes and you have been neither and I see nothing from your performances to suggest you will be. You’re goal difference is minus 20 which is already a concern if you want to stay up. Essentially to address this you need to have an outstanding Jan window and for players to come in and hit the ground running. History shows that to be unlikely

Just and go and research how many teams have stayed up with 10 points from 14 games. It’s really not many and yet somehow you seem to think Forest are different. On what basis? You’re not better than Leicester (easiest game we’ve had so far), Leeds, Villa, Fulham or Everton. Which 3 teams are you going finish above exactly and what on earth is giving you this positivity given you’ve lost to teams you needed to beat at home and your away record is a shocker.

You can put your fingers in your ears all you like - you’re nailed on to go down
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No-one on here has these views that you talk about. It's your agenda that you are projecting. You are, and have always been, obsessed with Forest.

You are not an expert on the EPL. In fact, you can't even follow what I am spelling out to you. Because, again, you have an agenda.

Just to confirm, I don't play FM (although I do like my stats), no-one is acting like a veteran and I never said that decent performances will lead to different results.

All I said was we needed to get points to better the three teams below us. Is that really so difficult to grasp?

If you haven't gathered, I am an optimist and a realist. Do I feel optimistic we will stay up? Yes. Do I really believe that we will? Maybe...with maybe based on the points I have raised above.

I am not actually bothered if we go down or not. Last season was amazing and I am thoroughly enjoying this season. Now if we get relegated this season and don't come up the following...then you can crow all you like. Then I will be dissapointed, worried and all the things in between.

You talk as if your points are fact, which I am sure you will believe they are, but the simple fact of the matter is as follows:

1. We are 3 points off 17th and 4 points off the Leicester Lions in 14th. 24 games to go...what's the panic? Note* I never said Forest were different...you did.
2. We need replacements if players are injured. Simple logic that one.
3. I researched how many teams had 10 points (or less) after 14 games that stayed up over the last 5 seasons...it's 5 from 15...so chances are 33%.
4. I researched how many teams had 10 points (or less) after 15 games that stayed up over the last 5 seasons...it's 5 from 15...so chances are 33%. So...even if we lose against Palace next week...it is still a 1 in 3 chance.
5. How many teams had 1 point from 7 games and then went on to win the play-offs? One, us. If anyone can do it, it's Cooper. I take positivity from that.
6. I take further positivity that we likely will have less of our players at the WC than others...giving them more time to gel.
7. I could continue, but you will no doubt ignore what I have written and continue in your condescending manner...with your agenda.

Points 1-6 are facts...point 7 is subjective. Truly ask yourself 99...are you really as clever as you think you are? Or...is your ego simply out of control.

Really weird post on a number of levels - you say I’m obsessed with Forest (check my posting history and I’m on other boards far more than this one!) yet it’s beginning to feel like you’re slightly obsessed with me!

On your bullet pointed list - point 6 isn’t a fact, it’s subjective. Have another read - you even use the word likely to give you a clue.

My agenda, if I have one, is that I think Forest look in trouble. I don’t care if you get relegated or not as long as we stay up. I just merely said I think you’re nailed on. The condescending nature of what I say is because if anything I’ve watched my team in this division for 8 years - seen us very close to the drop and seen what what it took to keep us alive. Does it mean I’m right? Nope. Does it mean I might just have a bit more of an experienced perspective than some others? Yeah I think so

Thought we looked better going forwards than we have for a while, carried more threat for sure, just the finishing that was poor - but at least chances were created with some fairly nice approach play. I agree with SC that if the penalty they got was correct then there should have been 3 more given, although personally I think only their's and yates's were 'maybes'. A win against Palace will be tough but do-able and depending on other results things may look better, but blimey it's a tough ask to stay up.

Point 6 is more objective to be fair…but either way, you add nothing of value. You can’t even respond to the points you make,, that I then research and respond to? It’s just ego driven nonsense, no debate…

As a heads-up i’ll delete every post you make on a match thread from now on 👍🏻

Up to you if you want to waste your time posting, or take your views onto all those other message boards.

The same for Waltzing also.

What ever happens this season, we can all be proud of our achievements last season.
We got promoted to what is the most difficult league in the world. We did it without resort to cheating, a point that our two East Midlands neighbours might want to note.

Now if Leicester were to be relegated would they be sanctioned under EFL regs? If we think back they went bust [leaving lots of small business's out of pocket] before getting promoted? did they overspend in that season?
