Fantastic player but I’d be surprised if he’s ever near good enough to lace Ronaldo’s boots.
Forget about Messi.

Some people still haven't grasped even the most basic understanding that football is a TEAM game.
England made that mistake tonight.
"Double up" on a player and get outnumbered all over the rest of the playing area. Any well coached team will play to it's own strengths, not the opponents

Mbappe is just another very good player at the top of his game playing for one of the elite 5 or 6 nations who are very capable of winning the WC (and Euros... which is harder). England and France are both one of them.
The hype about him can be quite cringeworthy by his (ex) playing peers, now well paid TV pundits, who have to talk crap to big-up 'generational' players to sell themselves to their respective TV channel paymasters (BBC or ITV). Same goes for Messi.

To be clear, you aren’t suggesting that Messi is overrated?

I would hope not. If he follows up with ‘we should buy Rice for 100m’ I’m done

who is he?

Mbappe did claim 39 goals and 26 assists last season so he’s definitely up there by current standards. It would take a lot to match the heights of 24-28 yr old Messi but will be fun to see anyone try. Ideally he will do it in a league with a bit of competition.

Obviously Mbappe has shown he can do it at the highest level of football but producing stats from mainly the average French League doesn’t even come close to comparing him with Messi and Ronaldo.

I think only Robb has ever suggested we should pay massive money for Declan Rice.

Never has a thread seen so much straw clutching to justify English failure.
Again.
Ah bit Messi...
Ah bit Mbappe...
Ah bit whoever...

Shame about the result but that team has talent and will hopefully win something.
Someone who isn't talked about a lot is Declan Rice. He's a mediocre player.

Imagine if someone would’ve doped maradona and pele with all the steroids and HGH that Messi got.
They’d be insane.

I’m not sure there’s *that* much of a difference between playing up top for a Real Madrid or Barcelona hoovering up between 90 and 100 pts and progressing to at least the CL quarters every season or playing up top for a PSG hoovering up between 90 and 100 pts and progressing to at least the CL quarters every season.
The service Ronaldo was getting pretty much throughout his time at Real was ridiculous, and La Liga usually has its share of cannon fodder.
I’m not saying that there’s no difference between the leagues; there obviously is. But I think it’s overstated how difficult it may be to score goals for, for example, a Real Madrid that’s so far ahead of 16 or 17 other teams in La Liga.
Plus, if people need convincing of his ability to do it against bigger clubs, Mbappe’s CL record is ridiculous; better than two in three across his career.
