Probably once ever. I refuse to believe Pele and Maradona were as good.

I'm a Messi man myself and think he's the best ever but Maradonna is a tough one, played when tackles were a tad rougher and didn't have the Barca team about him like Messi did, he was also a lunatic with drink and later on with drugs whilst Lionel is a consummate pro, not as good but would liked to have seen him with diffirent conditions

Maradona was the best imo

Messi played less than 2 decades after Maradona who played only a few years after Pele. The idea that Messi is a once ever is ridiculous.

posted on 10/12/22

Yeah, no chance he comes close to their numbers. Good player obviously but no chance

Great player, thought he was very good tonight.

It’s not always about numbers. Quality is quality and I’m sure Mbappe will be the best player of his generation with at least a couple of world cups under his belt. What more could you ask? Comparison is the thief of joy.

Walker handled him well tonight.

Probably a Neymar level player.

Messi is a far better player than Pele.

Apart from when he was skinned. Otherwise did ok

That’s not the point. The fact that Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona, Pele and a bunch others have existed over the past 40-50 years would suggest there will be plenty of other greats over the next century let alone ever.

I like the moment he made Walker look like a mug and nearly created that chance for Dembele

I’m too young to say but his goal record for a forward was modest enough. What set him apart in your opinion?

None of their goals came via Mbeppe, shame Maguire couldn't contain Giroud.

Well it kinda is the point. I am saying Messi is a once ina century type player. You then say Pele existed, so I am saying Pele is a tier below Messi.

The only player I have ever seen get close to Messi is Maradonna at his best. But that was short lived.

If you want overated, supposidly 100 m rice is yet man. Mbappe only had to get the ball and we had to try and gang up on him with 2 or 3. He didn’t need to do much. Plus we couldn’t play high as he’d smash past if given the opportunity, it limited options.

Mbappe was the catalyst for the first goal only because our school boy minded players felt like charging at him with 4 of them and leaving the middle of the park wide open was the correct thing to do.

He made one other good pass into the box that nobody got on the end of, other than that, he did absolutely feck all for 100 minutes.

Decent player but he's not as good as people make him out to be.

No way near the level of Ronaldo or Messi, which some weirdos keep saying he is.

So Messi in a once in a century player yet you say Maradona was close who played less than 2 decades before Messi, that makes no sense?

50 years ago most would have said no one will come close to Pele and we’ve since had at least 3 players who you could argue are better.

posted on 10/12/22

Messi playing style same as Maradonna but with way more goals & assists, so of course he’s better than Maradonna. If he wins this World Cup this won’t even be a debate.

Unfair on Mbappe to compare him to Ronaldo and Messi. Those two were freaks, Mbappe will still go down as one of the all time greats-and better than guys like Henry & Zlatan which is an incredible achievement

I thought that was overlooked too! Three deeper lying CMs, and not one of them stepped up to occupy the space infront of the defence where they scored. Looked poorly organised.

As for Mbappe, I thought he was supposed to terrorise England and be unplayable?

Don’t make me laugh
