Mbappe flopped so hard tonight. Genuinely was expecting him to rip England to shreds. He didn't track back or exert any energy into the game, just looked for fouls every time he got it. He'll turn up in the next 2 no doubt

Nobody playing will be able to lace Messi boots, once in a century type player
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Probably once ever. I refuse to believe Pele and Maradona were as good.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Maradona was the best imo
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And imo, best I’ve ever seen without a doubt
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’m probably not qualified to have an opinion as I’ve only ever seen highlights of them but I always feel there’s a little nostalgia involved when people say Maradona or Pele are the best ever.
Yes they played in tougher times but they didn’t score 50+ a season consistently while landing the big trophies and while times were tougher in their era, players weren’t as physically fit either.

So Messi in a once in a century player yet you say Maradona was close who played less than 2 decades before Messi, that makes no sense?
50 years ago most would have said no one will come close to Pele and we’ve since had at least 3 players who you could argue are better.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am saying in the last 70 years of football I think Messi is the stand out best player, only player to get close was peak Maradona, but Messi did it for 15 years.
So yes, a once in a century type player. You can disagree of course.

“Mbappe was the catalyst for the first goal only because our school boy minded players felt like charging at him with 4 of them and leaving the middle of the park wide open was the correct thing to do.”
I thought that was overlooked too! Three deeper lying CMs, and not one of them stepped up to occupy the space infront of the defence where they scored. Looked poorly organised.

Yeah it was pathetic. P!ssed me off so much. I thought walker handled mbappe well for the most past.

He’s only 23.
He may end his career with 3 World Cups titles.
Mbappe is going to break all kinds of records if he stays fit.
He’ll almost certainly become France’s most capped player and record goalscorer, and if he maintains his current rate over the next decade or so, he’ll end up threatening Ronaldo’s goalscoring record.
Might not have been the star tonight, but he has been in his three other starts, and you’d think has a very good chance of winning the Golden Ball and Golden Boot at the age of 23.

Those goals against poland were top notch. He’s a massive talent.
Mbappe is just another very good player at the top of his game playing for one of the elite 5 or 6 nations who are very capable of winning the WC (and Euros... which is harder). England and France are both one of them.
The hype about him can be quite cringeworthy by his (ex) playing peers, now well paid TV pundits, who have to talk crap to big-up 'generational' players to sell themselves to their respective TV channel paymasters (BBC or ITV). Same goes for Messi.

Mbappe did claim 39 goals and 26 assists last season so he’s definitely up there by current standards. It would take a lot to match the heights of 24-28 yr old Messi but will be fun to see anyone try. Ideally he will do it in a league with a bit of competition.
